Welding Respirator Question...Help ?

If I just wanted something to wear while welding in the garage, I would get a 10 - pack of 3m 8515 disposable welding respirators they would be about $2.50 each. have a flame retardant outer layer and are N95.

It also depends on how bad you have been exposed to it and your personal health situation. I have been using a good 3M half mask for grinding and plasma cutting, but it doesn't fit under my Miller hood. I did a stupid this past weekend. Because of the cold I only opened my roll up doors halfway and set my fan on low (24x36x12 shop with 10 ft roll ups on each end). Only spent two hours welding but wife noticed a little smokiness. I have had the welding fume fever for 3 days. Headache finally dropped down to "normal" migraine levels this afternoon. Still have the muscle aches, joint pain, projectile vommiting and diarrhea.

Doctor is still deciding if I should giveup welding completely due to this incident and my other health issues.

Anyways, take it for what it's worth...?

Ps. Flux core welding on unpainted channel iron.

mind you, you can find these on ebay for lost less $$$

when i use mine i cant even smell paint fumes when spray painting. it works wonders

Looks like a good unit but about 8X the price of an APR setup.

All of these respiratory protection devices should be fit tested to your face.

They also don't work with facial hair

well, i dont have facial hair. On mine i can disconnect the air supply line and try to breath in...i get no incoming air flow.

I paid $210.00 new for mine on ebay 4 years ago. Never regretted it.
