Has anyone had experience replacing the suction hose that joins the metal hydraulic pipe hitch suction assembly. Located right under the drivers platform on the right side of the tractor.

Went to hook my backhoe up yesterday, and when I tried to work the rear hydraulics I got a real bad leak. The schematics I checked indicate the problem is a severely corroded suction hose that is hose clamped to the metal hydraulic pipe hitch suction assembly. It's a ten dollar part, and I just as soon not take it to a dealer to replace if its a DIY job, but I'm concerned about how difficult it will be to slip the hose back on the pipe, or if I will need to loosen up the entire assembly.

Thanks,

RW

After a great deal of effort I was able to get the new hose on. You would think a hose would slide right on a pipe coated with hydraulic fluid, but no. I still cannot figure out why this is not a solid pipe from front to rear.

But, the thing is still leaking. Right now I've got two worm clamps doubled up on one end of the hose and tightened down as much as I can and it is still pumping fluid on the ground through that end when I engage the rear hydraulics. The pipe and hose were clean when I put them on so it cannot be grit or anything keeping it from sealing.

I would appreciate any suggestions.

When you put on the 2 worm clamps, did you line up the worm mechanisms? If you did, you need to stagger them not line them up.

Thank you for the reply. Yes they are staggered. On the original installation only one worm clamp was used on each end. I though putting two on the leaking end might help, but it didn't.

Does the metal pipe you are attaching to have any pits in the metal? Or, does it look colapsed? When you slid the new hose on(since it was tight) did it slice/cut the interior of the new hose?

When I checked the pipe before putting on the hose, it seemed fine. The black paint was worn off, but other than that I couldn't feel any rough areas. I don't know how the inside of the hose could have been cut, I squared it up with the end and was able to get it onto the pipe for about the first half inch before it got real tight. When I checked the hose itself before putting it on, it looked fine and solid on the interior.

That is weird that a return line would be giving you such a hard time. I'm out of ideas.

Good luck hopefully it is an easy fix.

Keep us posted on what you find.

Thanks for your suggestions. I am looking to get some wider worm clamps to see if that does not help. Failing that, it is back to the dealer, which seems to be becoming a routine with various hose leaks on this tractor - fuel and hydraulic.

Who do you deal with. Are you dealing w/ Blue Valley Tractor?

Yes, Blue Valley Tractor.

I have not had the greatest experience w/ their service dept. How has your experience w/ them been?

No complaints with their service department, other than they do not have a field truck to at least come out and do minor in the field repairs. For the fuel leak, when I brought it in the second time, they even did the repair with the tractor on the trailer. I was taking the tractor to our north farm up in Missouri the next day, and they did a temp fix to get me up and going until the replacement part came in.

My experience with their sales and parts department has not been the best, which is why I ended up buying my tractor from Straub in Wichita. They seem to be either understaffed or a little disorganized in the parts and sales area.

Pretty much all tractors use a small piece of hose in the suction line connecting the two pieces. And they do not normally create a leaking issue, after all they are on the suction side. I've seen loose ones suck air into the system, but generally they do not drip oil unless the hose is cut or deteriorated.

Does it only leak when the backhoe is hooked up? I am wondering if you could have a plumbing issue of some sorts when the backhoe is hooked up and causing pressure to build up in the suction side. If not, a close inspection of the hose and the pipes should reveal some sort of a flaw.

Some of those fuel lines you mentioned gave us fits. A good fix is to just remove the factory braded hoses from the banjo fittings and clamp on some good ole' USA hose. You have to cut the crimp, but that is easy.

It leaks when I engage the rear hydraulics by pushing the lever that is up by the seat. Nothing is hooked up to the rear hydraulics at this time. It is a brand new hose and the pipe seems fine, I have checked it from front to back. There does not appear to be any damage to it.

If you engage the hydraulic remote with nothing attached to those ports, it forces the oil to go into a bypass situation as the oil has no where to go. You may notice the engine rpm drop a little also. You are loading up the pump on this open center system and causing backpressure where there should be none. So your suction line is holding some pressure and leaking. Momentary bypasses are normal and frequent, like every time you curl your bucket all the way to a stop you have a half second of bypass. But if you engage the remote and leave it engaged for a bit, you will have problems.

I think it is J.J that is so good at hydraulics, perhaps he will contribute.

Is this similar to the hose you are talking about.(The suction hose from transmission screen before the pump)Or am I not understanding you correctly and it is a line from your aux valves.

As I am not familiar w/ the 35 series this is a pic from a 30 series and they very well may be completely different
If it is building presure in your transmission then I would think the tranny is not venting properly.(Plugged or frozen vent)

Thanks, that makes sense.

I did have the backhoe hooked to the hydraulics originally, when I attempted to use the legs to lift it into position they would not lift under the weight of the backhoe and that is when I discovered the leak. The legs and arm and bucket all work, just not under pressure. When I replaced the hose, I did not attempt to reconnect the backhoe and just moved the lever by the seat to check my work. So I have probably held it for 4-5 seconds and then the leak occurs again. I will hook the hydraulics up to the backhoe and see if the leak continues. Maybe it is fixed and I just do not know it.

The following link has a schematic of the system; it is part number 007201869D2 or number 10 in the diagram: OEM Parts

I know next to nothing about mechanics - so not even sure how it works.

Hooked the backhoe up today and all is fine. Leak is gone with the installation of the new hose.

Thanks all who helped.
