Where do you carry your gun on your tractor?

By the way to gain access I believe you will need to go to your "my home" then "my account" then "permissions". to access the front porch and/or friendly politics.

Thanks, I'll take a look- I never signed up when it came up a while ago...

Thanks for keeping the politics out of this thread. Politics makes a thread smell like horse pucky.

You have smell-a-'puter?

I have one good reason to carry a gun on my tractor. A few years ago I took our 2 labs out the front door one night, and my flashlight caught the eyes of a cougar (4 legged kind) just setting at the edge of the woods about 80 yards away looking us over to see which one would be dinner that night.

That particular time I went in to get the rifle and creased the top of his head with a .308. He died about a mile away.

I have also seen coyotes, which will come right up to my labs. I know they want to lure them back to their pack.

* * * * * * *

Don't get a lot of 2 legged visitors, which is great.

But, another reason to carry is that DW and I own rentals. I don't like to have to do this, but every once in a while we have to evict someone. Otherwise we would go broke. People can get very emotional when they lose their home, even if it is because they chose to spent their paycheck on booze and bars instead of rent.

When a guy gets too old to run and too old to fight, he is also too old to take a beating. This is a good reason to carry.

I have saw coyotes following a tractor within 100 feet while cutting hay. The field rats run from the mower, the coyotes run in for an easy meal. Had to do a double take they were so close to the tractor I thought it was his dogs playing and following the tractor.

I'm not going to get into a urinating contest with anyone who doesn't want to carry on their tractor, ATV or UTV, it gets too much like a political thing, lots of word throwing and all, and in the end, neither side changes their opinion.

But, back to the original subject - I'm not endorsing this company in any way or fashion, just throwing it out for to give people some ideas. Gum Creek Vehicle Handgun Mount Steering Wheel Gun Holster Mount

They have a concealed vehicle mount holster that is essentially a pouch that attaches with a clip and strap. The pouch can hold a pistol, plus extra ammo or magazines and it has a flap with a velcro closure to keep dust and dirt from getting inside. A little pricey, but I would think you could find something similar cheaper, or even buy the pouch from Wally World and attach your own clip or strap.
They also have an open holster, but it is basically just a left handed nylon holster with the spring clip, again, it's something you could buy somewhere else and adapt it some to do the same thing.

A friend of mine mounted one of those scabbards on the vertical upright on his FEL mount, between the tractor and the controls. His works well because it's in front and to the right (he's right handed). Being between the tractor and the mount, it's pretty well protected and he can easily keep his eye on it while out mowing or whatever.

I usually carry pistol, so I like the covered pouch, especially on the UTV, center mounted on the dashboard, plus I can easily carry extra ammo inside, just in case I want to take a break from working and do a little target shooting.

As an example, less than a year ago I was at the movies with my wife and when driving out of the lot a meth head on a skateboard got between me and the car going in the opposite direction as if this was OK. I corralled the idiot with my car, and he had nowhere to go but a sidewalk or roof pillar. He fell down, hit my fender with the board and as I was getting out to give him a piece of my mind smashed me above my eye with the board and tried to leave the scene. I got back in the car and tracked him down and ran him off the sidewalk into the bushes at the end of the lot, never touching him with the car. He got up and pushed the door closed while I struggled to get out of the car. He smashed my side rear window and disappeared before I could see where he went.
Now, if I been packing, chances are I would have changed the outcome, but not likely for the better for me.

IMO you handled that situation VERY poorly. The skateboarder was doing something he probably should of been doing, but you took it upon yourself and your car to teach him a lesson.

You escalated that situation so well it would make a good example of what NOT to do while carrying a sidearm.

Gunny that Gum Creek is a good option. As stated an outside holster on your person can be a pain snagging on things getting on/off the tractor. I also suggest that some of y'all try an IWB(Inside Waist band) holster. They take a while to get used to, but they are easily concealed and protected by pulling over a shirt or jacket.

These guys build some of the most comfortable IWB's and have been doing it for a long time(I just retired one that the barrel edge finally wore through after 20 years of carry):

I could probably write a whole page on this, but honestly am worn out with it. Just a couple of things, a gun is not used to diffuse a situation, it is a last result when efforts to diffuse or disengage are unsuccessful.

Big plus one.

Per the topic of the thread, if I'm outside doing any work and carrying, hard to beat a cheap uncle mikes shoulder holster.

I posted this on a handgun hunting forum and a guy recommended a regular zip able gun rug. I think I have one of them somewhere???I may play with the idea some if and when I locate it. If it was mounted where it was removable yet handy I think I could make it work. Would keep the dust out and could be removed for weather, may even make it with a lanyard to the key. If anyone figures something better post it please.

It would not be as handy this way, it would keep it within arms reach and dust free. I hate to clean a pistol that hasn't been shot.
Thanks William.

But you find the need to post here?

Since when has it been forbidden to express an opinion on any subject?

It was a simple statement, of my situation in Australia, (This should also answer a question of my location).

This is what you posted "I extremely happy that I live in a place that is safe enough that I do not need to carry any firearm on my tractor or anywhere else. Nor do I find the need to hunt from the tractor."

What does that have to do with the topic at hand? Nothing.
