yanmar 1500 trade question ??

Hi guys, new here, i have a ford 8 N i was thinking about trading for a yanmar 1500 ... is this a good trade? are the 1500s good? or is there lots of trouble with them? i dont know anything about them. my 8 N works fine and everything runs good with it, i was just looking for something a little smaller and lighter to haul around when i need to, thanks for any and all help

Welcome :welcome: I don't own a 1500 ,but it is a yanmar and should be a sound machine. It depends on how it was treated in it's past life. You should have no trouble getting parts. Like buying anything used check it out well or have it checked out. Is it a 1500D or just a 1500 ? I sold a Ferguson TO20 for my Yanmar 3110D

thanks for the tips, he didnt say which it was, i havnt seen it he just sent the email asking if i wanted to trade tonight, and i thought id get out here and get a crash course in Yanmars LOL to see if it was a good trade i love my ford but my wife has a hard time with it so i thought i might do some trading, thanks

There are members here that have 1500's. This model won't have a water pump and the coolant has to be mixed correctly for the engine to cool properly. Water pump kits are available for this mod. Like I said, With anything used buyer beware.

Keep the 8n and buy the 1500. You know his and hers. 8N yours the 1500 hers.. Is there a law in Tn that says you can only have 1 tractor ??:laughing:

Know what you mean.. I was just joking. Maybe some of the guys with a 1500 will come around and help if you have any questions. I've given you about all I can offer on this mod . If you trade keep your overrun clutch for the PTO if the 1500 doesn't have 1. Just like the 8N .No 2 stage clutch on this 1.

I'm afraid not . None of the gray's(YM'S) have live PTO. What year mod is he trying to pass the 1500 off as

It depends on what you want to do with the tractor. I see you want to haul it easier, so the lighter 1500 wins there. But if you want to pull a disk or bottom plow the 8n will win there. The 1500 can do it but not as fast or as deep. If you want to mow the ym will be much better in that case. It has a slower first gear for tilling with a tiller as well.

Pulling ground engageing implements the 8n wins, everything else including fule usage the yanmar has it beat i think.

Oh the difference if you did not know in the 1500 and 1500d is that the "D" means 4wd.

If its puke green on the sheet metal its and older version if its red its newer, but still its around 1979 vintage in the latter case.

I'd be interested in knowing the condition of the Ford 8-N ? a average condition 8-n around here will fetch anywhere from 2500 to 3500
if we were to split hairs and value yours at 3000, You would be much better off selling it and using the money to buy a bit larger tractor,
perhaps a ym2000, also a very reliable yanmar tractor, and not that much larger than the 1500 but certainly with more HP if needing to tackle a larger job,

I'm with you deep. I had an old TO20 that I sold 7-8 yrs ago for 2500 and it wasn't pretty . I would look at selling it and buying something. I have no idea what that 1500 is worth, but he knows his 8N tractor and this 1500 may have had a rough life. That's why I suggested he check it out or have someone check it

Good point guys. But lots of times folks trade cause its and easy NOW deal. The yanmar may bring $2500 who knows?? It may be very decent looking original??? His 8n May be pretty rough and just fetch $2500 as well, even if it fetches $3000 he forgoes a bit of cash to have what he wants now.

His call though just illustrating the trade idea. Someone will always almost trade up and someone down in a trade but its all about perception of the trader as to the validity of the deal.

True Clemsonfor, I want him also be aware of the power he'll be sacrificing in the trade down, Not just a little but quite allot difference between his 8-n and a ym1500, also another thing if it were me I would take into consideration, I read in his other thread that he has a bad back,

Now me having a bad back myself as well, one of the most important option in having my tractor was it having the ability to install a FEL, ( sure saves my back ) ......... however I have seen the ym1500 equipped with FEL but not sure how readily available one would be for that particular size tractor,

But yes, anytime one can trade even-steven for something else of equal value and come out happy with the trade is Good thing:thumbsup:

Actually I just got rid of the yanmar to buy the kubota. So I guess I don't own the yanmar anymore since Friday. It was a good little tractor I just needed something bigger.
