I said the same thing for years, finally pulled the trigger on an Everlast 50 amp w/pilot arc this January ( $420 shipped)....best money I've spent in a LONG time!!! Still giggle like a school girl every time I use it....

Which brand and model did you get?

Hi JP,

I thought I recognized a bit o'humor in your post, and while I understand (and for some implements share) your inclination to DIY instead, having used our PTB, we wouldn't want ANYthing else, no matter the price (within reason).

For comparison, here are some pictures of my PTB after? 2+ years of heavy use. The roughness is from clay and gravel we were moving, but there is a small amount of surface rust where the finish is worn off. Note that the bottom edge (i.e., cutting edge) is still straight, sharp, and unmarred.

just make another copy with 3/16 and weld them both together... 3/8 would be fine with a BX, no way a BX can bend a 3/8 plate... I could lift a BX25 by hand ;) (ok I am exagerating a bit here...)

Darryl,
Thanks, I'll keep that one in mind for when I have a weak moment.

Had i known i'd be getting a tractor a couple years later i might have splurged for the 40amp machine, i can probably do it with my 30 but would be pushing it a bit

I have cut 1/2" snowplow cutting edges with a 30 amp plasma cutter.
I even beveled the edge, but that was slow going.

Also realizing this is a BIY forum, I have to echo PhysAssist here and give some serious praise to the PTB. I think it would take some real effort to replicate it... but knock yourself out and let us see the your results.
