Chopping green corn should not have been that much of a fire risk. I am told locally most combine fires are from failed bearings or engine fires.

No, that's not good at all.

I wonder if the oil soot and residue will ruin some of that field for feed use?

That's rough. The dairy farm I work at would have love for their gehl to do that when the corn head took a dump couple weeks ago.

My neighbor lost an International combine last year when he was finishing up his corn picking. the alternator shorted out and caught fire, by the time he made another round and saw the fire he was spreading he burned several acres of corn and stubble.

You see the same with hay equipment. Dry crop and a bad bearing.

Somehow I dont think a couple hand held fire extinguishers would do much good there !;)

those things always seem to go all the way, combines also. not much ever left after
a fire.
