I recently bought a used Kubota L5740. After a few hours working with it, the engine would just die for no apparent reason.

After some searching, I have determined that the switch in the seat is not working properly. Sometimes when it would start to die, I would bounce on the seat and it would catch and continue running. Now, it won't run at all while the foot pedal is pressed, or the pto is engaged.

I have put a jumper wire on the switch to finish the job I was doing, but now I want to replace the switch so that it works properly again. However, it seems that the only way to replace it is to replace the whole seat!!! That ain't gonna happen. Especially since the seat is over $1000.

There are 6 'phillips head' screws under the seat that I tried to remove to get to the switch to see if I could repair it, but I couldn't get any of the screws to budge and broke a screwdriver trying.

Has anyone replaced the safety switch in the seat? If so, how did you do it and where did you find a new switch?

Keep in mind there are 2 seat switches on this model, and the other one is easily accessible and is working fine. The bad one is inside the seat cushion.

Would this be the switch your referring too?
I had no trouble removing it from my 5740. When I did the air ride seat conversion I removed both switches and the then new original 5740 seat ended up in an old Zetor tractor. The Zetor didnt need the switches so i plucked them out. I can't remember how I removed it but it was uneventful.

How did you jumper it out? I want to do this but haven't taken the time yet to meter the connectors and see how they work.

That does look like the switch. I'm going to take that part number you have highlighted and see if I can find it in Messicks

I just unplugged it on the side of the seat and put a small piece of wire across the 2 prongs and taped it with electrical tape. It probably won't last long the way I have it, but it did get me out of a bind. My tractor does not have a cab, so it is out in the weather a little.

That is the right switch! I wasn't looking in the right place. I was looking at the 'seat' and not at the 'seat components'.

I'll still need to figure out how to get those 6 screws out of the bottom of the seat.

Thanks for the info. Do you still have the switch? Would you be willing to sell it (cheap)?

Yup. I still got the switch. I had just snapped those photos for you when I saw your post. Check with your dealer first. Might be cheaper to buy fom the dealer than ship from Newfoundland, Canada. I took those two switches off in no time. I may have removed the seat bottom. Just can't remember now. It's been two years since I installed the air ride seat.

Messicks has that switch for $67.70 and I'm sure there would be some shipping.

I'd really like to get mine out and have a good look at it. It may just need adjustment or the wires might be loose, but I'm not sure how I can get the 6 screws out. My brother is a mechanic, I'll try to get him to look at it.

That's a nice looking seat you have there.

Wish I had a cab, especially after spending about 16 hours in 95* sunshine the past 2 days.

Got one of my mechanic brother to try to remove the screws under the seat today, but no luck. He tried a hammer and chisel and couldn't budge any of the screws.

So I'll just leave the switch jumped for now, because I have a few jobs lined up for the tractor.
