Sadly we (Australia) havent 'ditched the monarchy.' Theoretically the queen is still our head of state, although technically our Governor General (chosen by the Parliament) is the highest authority. That said, the roles are purely ceremonial and its still our Prime Minister who actually calls the shots.
Even more galling is that we still have a Union Jack in the corner on our flag.
(Correction. Its not correct to say the Governor General's role is 'purely ceremonial'. At a time of crisis when the two ruling parties are terminally deadlocked and the Parliament is unable to function, the GG has to act as a 'tie breaker'. It happened once about 30 years ago.)

I am be wrong but is not the Governor General the Queens representative in Australia and has such has to bow to the wishes of the Queen is she gives an order. It caused such a fuss when the GG made the call 30 years ago it is still a hotly debated subject in Australia.

The entire monarchy is pointless, and for us to have not severed ties with them is insane. The GG is a pointless position to have.
The political system is far superior to other systems, just need to modify it slightly.

The Royal Baby is now 5 days past due and counting. Also it could be up to 10 days after birth before the Royal Name is announced.

Right, here we go... Firstly, I am looking forward to the new '3rd in line to the Throne' being born. I will be drinking a toast, just as I drank a "Splice The Mainbrace" tot of pussers rum when William was born.
As a counter to WilliamBos, zonta223 & Alchemysa, I am a proud Constitutional Monarchist and fully support our Westminster system of government. Yes, for the benefit of zonta223, that does include WilliamBos... It's exactly the same system. I should know as I grew up in Canada, which has never been a republic.
I have never 'tugged my forlock' to our Queen. I have proudly sworn allegence, on three separate occasions to Her. The first two as the Queen of Canada & the last one to the Queen of Australia.
We do not "bow to the wishes of the Queen if she gives an order", if anything it's the other way around zonta. The PM, however, does not call all of the shots as no proposed law can be passed into actual law without the signature of the GG who represents "The Crown". The Crown is the authority of the Westminster Constitutional Monarchy system of government which we enjoy. The GG is also the Commander in Chief of the Military, the PM has to ask her permission to use the 'troops' for anything.
Yes, I said 'enjoy'. After over 37 years of Naval Service & having visited many countries during those years I can say from practical & personal experience that we do, indeed, enjoy the most stable and free forms of government in the world.
And lastly (for now, anyway), we do have our own flag. I am proud to fly it & proud to have served under it.

I know where the Bowes-Lyon family name comes from and i ALSO KNOW THEIR HISTORY. Perhaps you should read some of the REAL family history not the sanitized version from Bucks Palace. About how she treated her BIL (the abdicated King and apparently a man who spurned her advances so she went for his brother instead) and his wife the "American ****" as she called her. How she would send letters to all the official homes the BIL went to live in telling the staff they were not allowed to bow etc to the American. The Bowes-Lyon family history and its treatment of ordinary working class people goes back a long way. And more importantly she is apparently only a quarter Bowes-Lyon being the offspring of her father and a French cook (hence her nickname cookie) so as the saying goes she is from the wrong side of the sheets.
I was born in the UK and you don't have to try and give me history lessons my family has lived the Bowes-Lyon history for many generations, I have not and never will pledge allegiance to anything that has a Bowes-Lyons connection and its not just me I well remember the whole high school I attended being given detention for refusing to line the road side and wave the flag as the old dragon went past.
And now everyone is waiting for another Bowes-Lyon to live on the public purse.

Settle down Mate... All I did was correct your statement that the Royal Family are Windsor, not Bowes-Lyon. I really don't care about the intrigues of the 1920-30's. I do care that, whatever the parentage, ER II is a great Queen and the only one I have 'known'.
I will add though that, in reading your responce, all I see is inuendo and one-sided statements. Based on your other posts in this thread with their untruths and predudicial slants (due, I suppose, to your own personal experiences & upbringing) I'd have to say that your credibility is pretty much shot.
