...

But like Spiker said, that was HEAVY rain REAL FAST.

...
For those in ohio and familiar with the Delaware/Marion county areas, I actually have some picture from about 8 or 10 years ago where SR229 was flooded at the Delaware reservoir. Actually happened in winter IIRC, cause it then froze over, cause when the water finally went down, I remember driving on 229 over the lake, and seeing ice-rings around the trees where the water lever was, and that was a good 8' OVER the road.

Also, SR98 to get onto 23 Northbound was ALL under water too. And this was the same year that US42 between Ashland and Mansfield, upstream of Charles Mills lake, was all under water, and then froze over too. Spiker, you remember that one??? Bout 8-10 years ago?

LD1, I think that was 2007-2008, it started raining in December and into January by mid January water was over SR42 it started freezing, in the -20 ambient temps for a weeks. US42 had about 6 feet of water over it and froze about 30" deep, it cut off my rout to work, I drove that daily for 5 years+. County Road 175 which is my primary drive into my farm, in Ashland County was closed for 3 months due to it Core of Engineers closing the Mohician Dry Dam, when it was made in the 1935 the dam is 46'deep (DRY normally only for flood control.) that year in Winter it went to 42' deep if I remember right & Ice froze everywhere covering lots of good farm/flood plane. SR30 was less than a foot above water to road surface. Ice Damage was a major worry on the bridge over the Jerome Fork which flows into the dry dam. This also closed SR95, and SR179 & a few county roads.

Sure sounds like the same storm. I'll have to see If I can find my pics though, but I am positive it was 2005-2006 or even the year prior.

I know it happened when I was still working in Mansfield area, thats how I knew about 42. I started working in Mt Vernon in March of 06, so it had to be before that.

I'd agree with the 2005-2006 winter---10% possibly of 2004-2005-- . A friend of mine took me along to check on the pier poles at Delaware Lake since water was threatening to go over the top and break the top ties off. That sure was a lot of water.

You live around the Delaware lake area???

That was the only time I seen water over TOP of 229. Have never seen it come close since. But I am sure it has happened in the past....

I remember making the drive to marion frequently. My normal route was 229. And you had to go as far north as 529 to find a road to cross the delaware lake/olentangy. And at one time, it even had a few inches coming over the road... And 229 was actually flooded in 2 places, Where the olentangy river feeds it (the main one right by 23) and also back about 3 miles east where the whetstone creek is.

LD1--I don't live near Delaware Lake but it was a friend I worked with that took me there to see the sights when the water was high. I think if the water would have gone up for another day or two they would have been in big trouble. Thankfully, it didn't.

LD, I'm with you on the rain. we,ve had our share this year. they shouldn't have to worry about drought conditions ( in my area) this year as years past. All the rain does make for some very good kayaking down the river. headed out 1st. thing in the AM

Hey Murph: not that I can say at the moment, I grew up in Lodi. Went to Cloverleaf and MC-JVS Autobody class. So been running those areas for decades. I had a home in West Salem until a few years ago too. Now moved south away from the Medina area problems.

It could have been back in the 05/06 time frame but sure didn't think it was that far back. I was working in Perrysville then at MPP & didn't remember having to detour around the water, I traveled CR 175 most of the time into West Salem then or SR39 back into Mansfield.

Around here we have had a mole explosion facilitated by the constantly wet/ damp ground. Elaborate tunnels causing erosion paths in the disturbed ground on slopes. Stomp em down theyre opened by the next day. Iv taken to putting boulders in the tunnels to keep them from re opening them.
