All this darn rain. Where was it last year

I think we are at 21-22 straight days of rain. Hurting somethings in the garden and helping others.

A lot of hay fields in the area are still waiting on the first cut.

DITTO.

We have not done a first cut. And, as I look out the window it is raining now.

The interesting thing, I was looking on TBN for a post of mine, and came across me whining about all the rain in - 2006.

I got 3" in an hour at my place yesterday. Talk about some ditches and creeks filling up quick.

I really wish that We were able to send ALL of You, in need of rainfall, some of the almost daily rainfall that we have been receiving for months. The ground is so soaked that fallen trees in the area have resulted in Power losses for up to 3 days in our County along. We lost Power twice, once for 12 hours and another time for 4 hours. I have been attempting to fill a Ditch for 6 weeks with dirt that a Friend of mine brings me. Either my Buddy's dirt pile is too wet to load, or it is too wet for me to spread the dirt with my FEL. I sincerely hope that Everyone receives the needed rainfall in their areas. Best wishes to Everyone.

I wish we could send the rain to others as well...

We have lost power twice, once during a storm and the other just because. The storm was dropping lightning bolts all around us and I heard one hit off near the power transmission lines. I told the wife that one did not sound good, and a few seconds later the power dropped. Thankfully, it was around 11:00 at night so we just went to sleep and the power came back around 2:30am. Can't really complain. The other power drop was only for an hour but it was during the daytime. We both have laptops so I power for TBN and the network is on a UPS so we could get to TBN so we were not badly inconvenienced.:laughing::laughing: The wifey called in the power outage and actually talked to a person. Usually it is all automated. After the power returned, a person called us back to tell us the power was restored. They said a tree fell and took out the power. That tree was not in our area but somewhere else.

The real grass in the yard is long but not too bad. The stuff that just grows is so high I will have to mow with the DR or the tractor because the lawn mower can't cut green stuff that tall. Some of it is 5-6 feet tall!:shocked::shocked: I need to change the oil and filter in the lawn mower. We have had so much rain I can't even get the oil and filter changed much less mow. I would love to blame all of the hours I am putting in at work but even if I had been at home on time it has been raining every afternoon/evening for weeks. Even over the weekend it rained. We did manage to move the chicken coop in between rain showers but the ground is just full of water...

NEVER have I seen this amount of rain for this length of time. Its one thing for a hurricane to drop a bunch of water but his constant rain for 3-4 weeks is unreal.

The weather forecast today shows more rain until Sunday.

I got 3" in an hour at my place yesterday. Talk about some ditches and creeks filling up quick.

A couple Sundays back we got 4-5 inches of rain. Some areas up in Chapel Hill got flooded out pretty badly. The river is STILL running high and the lake is so full of water I can't see the shore line in the woods. The beaches at the lake are just showing a little bit of sand above the water line.

RDU has escaped the worst of the rain but in the last 30 days they have had 4.35 inches which is only .7" above normal. However, going back 90 days, RDU had 19.4 inches with 9.9" being normal. Going back to January RDU had 30.3" with a normal of 21.9" so for the year RDU is 8.4 inches above normal. And RDU has not had the worst of the rain!

I had thought I had not been able to work outside much this year due to rain. I guess I was right looking at the RDU rain fall.

Good thing we are on top of a hill. If it keeps raining, the hill will make it easier to launch the kayaks and canoe when the flood reaches the house.:shocked::shocked::laughing::laughing::laughing:

Rain, Rain, Go Away,
Come Again Another Day.
Like in August! :D:D:D

I see a bright movement across the sky don't know what it is.

I remember reading in my ancient history class about this yellow orb that used to be frequently seen for about half of the day. It was supposed to be very bright and painful to look at... Can't remember its name though... Maybe one day I will see this mysterious object and its name will come to me...

Hey Guys:

Ya Ohio Rain has been crazy, Mansfield and Wooster still flooded pretty bad. I did a little searching, so far we may break the record for July. In June records were set in 1947 at 10.27" Min was 1988 at 0.56" . July Records (we may hit top 3 this year) July 1992 @ 13.23" & driest 1975 @0.94" these according to NOAA.GOV. I added a couple links below (may work?)

Cleveland
1st # is current, 2nd # Normal ave. 3rd # is Departure & last is last year.
TOTALS 7.90" 3.43" +4.47" 2.04"
Mansfield
TOTALS 6.99" 4.75" +2.24" 2.52"

My little creek/run/wash has run 2~4" deep or more for weeks and has flooded it's banks 3 times. Not as bad as last years flash flooding at my place where the rain was just as heavy as last few days but came in matter of hours.

Here is where i pulled the above info from.

Well we got prolly 6 to 8 inches this afternoon. The commodes are gurgling. Oh well, worry about it tomorrow. I am 57 years old and this is the wettest I can remember.

I know last year, late may or early june, it was bad. Water was actually running OVER the roadway at my house cause the 12" culvert coming under the road couldnt handle it. Same culvert pictured that is feeding my pond. and that culvert is a good 2' below the elevation of the road.

But like Spiker said, that was HEAVY rain REAL FAST.

We have had some downpours this year, but it is just the never-ending rain that has everything SOOO saturated....

For those in ohio and familiar with the Delaware/Marion county areas, I actually have some picture from about 8 or 10 years ago where SR229 was flooded at the Delaware reservoir. Actually happened in winter IIRC, cause it then froze over, cause when the water finally went down, I remember driving on 229 over the lake, and seeing ice-rings around the trees where the water lever was, and that was a good 8' OVER the road.

Also, SR98 to get onto 23 Northbound was ALL under water too. And this was the same year that US42 between Ashland and Mansfield, upstream of Charles Mills lake, was all under water, and then froze over too. Spiker, you remember that one??? Bout 8-10 years ago?

LD1, I think that was 2007-2008, it started raining in December and into January by mid January water was over SR42 it started freezing, in the -20 ambient temps for a weeks. US42 had about 6 feet of water over it and froze about 30" deep, it cut off my rout to work, I drove that daily for 5 years+. County Road 175 which is my primary drive into my farm, in Ashland County was closed for 3 months due to it Core of Engineers closing the Mohician Dry Dam, when it was made in the 1935 the dam is 46'deep (DRY normally only for flood control.) that year in Winter it went to 42' deep if I remember right & Ice froze everywhere covering lots of good farm/flood plane. SR30 was less than a foot above water to road surface. Ice Damage was a major worry on the bridge over the Jerome Fork which flows into the dry dam. This also closed SR95, and SR179 & a few county roads.

Sure sounds like the same storm. I'll have to see If I can find my pics though, but I am positive it was 2005-2006 or even the year prior.

I know it happened when I was still working in Mansfield area, thats how I knew about 42. I started working in Mt Vernon in March of 06, so it had to be before that.

I'd agree with the 2005-2006 winter---10% possibly of 2004-2005-- . A friend of mine took me along to check on the pier poles at Delaware Lake since water was threatening to go over the top and break the top ties off. That sure was a lot of water.

You live around the Delaware lake area???

That was the only time I seen water over TOP of 229. Have never seen it come close since. But I am sure it has happened in the past....

I remember making the drive to marion frequently. My normal route was 229. And you had to go as far north as 529 to find a road to cross the delaware lake/olentangy. And at one time, it even had a few inches coming over the road... And 229 was actually flooded in 2 places, Where the olentangy river feeds it (the main one right by 23) and also back about 3 miles east where the whetstone creek is.

Its funny, I live right off SR 42 but quite a bit north of you lads but do a bit of driving thru Wayne and Ashland countys. Spiker, do you know the Stocal 's

LD1--I don't live near Delaware Lake but it was a friend I worked with that took me there to see the sights when the water was high. I think if the water would have gone up for another day or two they would have been in big trouble. Thankfully, it didn't.

LD, I'm with you on the rain. we,ve had our share this year. they shouldn't have to worry about drought conditions ( in my area) this year as years past. All the rain does make for some very good kayaking down the river. headed out 1st. thing in the AM

Hey Murph: not that I can say at the moment, I grew up in Lodi. Went to Cloverleaf and MC-JVS Autobody class. So been running those areas for decades. I had a home in West Salem until a few years ago too. Now moved south away from the Medina area problems.

It could have been back in the 05/06 time frame but sure didn't think it was that far back. I was working in Perrysville then at MPP & didn't remember having to detour around the water, I traveled CR 175 most of the time into West Salem then or SR39 back into Mansfield.

Around here we have had a mole explosion facilitated by the constantly wet/ damp ground. Elaborate tunnels causing erosion paths in the disturbed ground on slopes. Stomp em down theyre opened by the next day. Iv taken to putting boulders in the tunnels to keep them from re opening them.
