Truck Tires

I'm sure this has been covered a 100 times, but my searches are turning up too many irrelevant threads. I finally bought a trailer and need to upgrade my truck tires. I have a half ton 2008 Silverado. My max total towed weight will be 7000 and max gross combined weight will be just under 12,000. My longest tow will be about 70 miles one way a couple times a year. Most of the time, the truck will be trailerless. Without the trailer, I do some moderate 4x4 driving to my hunting property, and this is my primary vehicle when the snow if flying. Any brand/model recommendations?

I've had good luck with both Coopers and Michelins.

For my rig, I am all Michelin! I like how they ride and how they last, even on my F-250, that carries a load regularly.

Toyo , had michelin ltx, worthless crap, handled like a wallowing pig in mud.


Make sure you get LT's, passenger tires belong on cars.

Hands down the best all around tire is the Goodyear Wrangler Dura Tracs. I have had them all and this is the closest thing to a MT Tire in a AT package.

I have Pirelli scorpions LTS on my 2010 Chevy avalanche good ride were very good in the snow I had continental LZ 20 Put on my sons jeep replaced goodyears very impressive in snow and smooth ride. I would recommend both.

I've had excellent luck with BFG all terrains KO tires. They last forever, work great in the snow and off road, and can handle a load well. They are a little noisy but give a good ride for a truck tire.

Definitely LT tires, makes a difference in towing situations.

I have Firestone Destination AT and have been very pleased in your use cases (road, snow, trailering, and light/medium off road). My truck is '06 Tundra DC 4x4.

55 thousand on Toyos AT on three quarter ton Dodge could not be happier goes well in mud or snow or rain probably another 20000 miles left

I have Cooper Discoverer AT-3's on my 2011 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4..Love them- great in mud, snow, rain and dry pavement...They are wearing like concrete too.

BFG AT's are good but pricey. On my 1/2 Ton Chevy work truck have around 50k on a set of Mastercraft AT2's load range C and still look good. Mastercraft is a Cooper brand.

It's impressive you get that many miles on any tire on 3/4 ton dodge. Had firestone steeltex a/t's (probably the best tire I ever owned before they were discontinued) and even those I didn't get more than 50, 000 out of.

We have toyo MT on our 3\4 ton truck amazing tires very quiet and awesome in mud and makes the Chevy look bad ***!!

Michelin 10 ply ltx tires on my 3/4 ton 4x4 GMC Z-71 and there is no better tire IMO ,I use my truck daily and for long heavy hauls/trailer this is the second set and i got 80,000 + miles from the first set ,But your gonna have to pay for them about $950.00 for the set I bought . Any tire in a 10 ply will provide good load and wear ,don't expect a $100.00 tire to work well .

Have had very good luck with Toyos run them on class 7 trucks as well. Hopefully will get 70000 miles out of set on Dodge and will replace them with same tire

I have these on my truck now and like them. I've also had Goodyear Silent Armor tires on a previous truck, they are slightly less aggressive than the Duratracs, but have a similar design. I tell people that get tires for trucks and want them to work well off road, make sure you get something with the sipes. Sipes are the narrow little slits in the tread design. Without them, they are poor in the rain and don't work as well in the snow either.

We have had the Duratracs on our work commuter trucks. They are pretty much the worst thing that you can buy if you want tires for any amount of winter driving. At times I think we would have been better off on the bare steel rim. We replaced them with the Silent Armor which are a world of difference. They made going to work in a blizzard painless.
