Seen a new one on my way to the lake. I see double pulls every weekend but usually involves a pickup. This was a odd combo.

Could be interesting trying to back that trailer in far enough to float the boat with a motorhome...

I'm pretty sure aczlan knew that and was just being a tad facetious. :)
Was thinking that they might do that, but wondering if a Jeep Patriot (which that appears to be) would have enough traction to pull a boat big enough to require a 7k trailer out of the water.

I think it is a Liberty. I don't think it would have too much problem in low range. The ramps around us aren't the greatest. Many are shallow so it would be tricky to get a sailboat trailer in far enough to float the boat off the trailer.

Could be. Even with an extending tongue, that will be a beast to get into the water.

OK, and I was thinking is was a joke about unloading the boat with the Jeep still attached. :) Oops!

I think the Liberty would do fine just towing it around the campground to the ramp and out though. On the highway, I think the boat would be a bit much for the Jeep.

The way some people drive, I wouldn't be surprised to see that...

I guess the pulling it out part would depend on the weight of the boat... The problem isn't usually getting the boat/trailer into the water, its getting it back out.

Ain't that the truth!

Definitely! The weight of the water and the force it takes to pull the boat out is tremendous. Would probably need 4-Low in that little Jeep to have a shot. I learned to drive backing a boat trailer down the ramp when I was about 13 or 14. Nothing like first learning to drive backwards with a trailer attached. :)

'Double pulls' are allowed here in MI, too.

"Under Section 721 of the Michigan Vehicle Code, pickup trucks equipped with a fifth-wheel assembly may, with certain restrictions, tow two trailers. This double trailer combination is sometimes called a 'recreational double'. Drivers must pass a knowledge test to receive their 'recreational double' endorsement.

Definition:
A recreational double is a pickup truck pulling a fifth-wheel trailer, designed for recreational living purposes, with a second trailer attached to the rear of the fifth-wheel trailer. The pickup truck must have a towing rating equal to, or greater than, the weight being towed.

To operate a recreational double, drivers must have an è¿* endorsement on their license. Applicants must pass a test designed to sample the knowledge needed to operate vehicle combinations of this type. Drivers who have a Group A Commercial Driver License with a å…¸ (double trailers) endorsement may legally operate a recreational double without obtaining the è¿* endorsement.

The total length of the three units pickup truck, fifth-wheel trailer and second trailer when coupled together, must not exceed 75 feet. The gross weight of the second trailer cannot exceed the empty weight of the pickup truck or the empty weight of the fifth-wheel trailer. The hitch used to tow the second trailer must be attached to the frame of the fifth-wheel trailer."

A few hoops to jump through, but do-able. No mention of a tow bar for the second item towed, but the above rules should apply.

btw: If I had a sailboat like that you couldn't give me a MH. It's a lot easier to sleep on a boat than it is to fish or dive from a motorhome, but that's just me. ;)

Do it all the time. I have pulled a 33' boat with a Jet Ski behind.

I bet truck, boat, and ski were 65 to 70' long.

I see it done 10 times over every weekend at my marina. Usually truck, 30' camper, 21' boat.

Most sailboat trailers at our marina have tongue's that extend 15' or more.

No issue. That boat is onlt 4000# or so.

I guess it'll just depend on the launching ramp to get that kind of boat deep enough. I didn't have any trouble launching a 28' pontoon boat with my 40' Bounder motorhome.

I think it is only legal with a fifth wheel trailer pulling a bumper pull trailer (or towed vehicle) lighter than itself.

That is an awfully long load.

I know that my grandfather wanted to use:

Pickup to pull 5th wheel travel trailer to pull a very small boat.

And was told that it was not legal to do in Oregon. He argued that he had a CDL (for log trucks), but the DMV would not budge for recreational use. Obviously, if one person does it, then everyone would want to do it.

And, we do have triple trailer trucks on the highways, often Bread trucks and UPS trucks.

Marinas will also hoist the boat off the trailer and set it in the water for him. It is the safest way to launch with a long trailer. Even an empty trailer gets hard to retrieve after the wheels drop off the end of the ramp.
