I purchased an older 15' batwing and I have a few questions.... first of all its the older style with the hydraulic cylinder to adjust height in the front and Im having trouble getting much height adjustment out of it, does anyone know what size cylinder it should be? Is there any other way to get more height out of it. I thought about putting another bracket in front of the exsisting bracket on the deck to add more range... but Im thinkin maybe the cylinder is undersized? Its also missing the chain/rubber guards at the bottom and Im looking for cheap ideas to add some kind of gaurds. If anyone has a manual for the older style 2615 Id love to get a copy of it... thanks

Cylinder size is 3.5" bore x 8" stroke.

thank you... thats seems really short... I believe thats what is on mine and I have a very short range top height is well under 8".. I would like to be able to top my pasture rather than cut it low... is there some kind of adjustment to help get more height? I wonder if I could get more height by relocating the lift cylinder to the rear of the brush hog?

How high do you want to cut? I have a 2515 and it will probably cut up to about a foot. (I just checked the specs, 2-14")

The range of movement (how low it can go) is limited by the spring clip spacers. If several of those are on the adjuster, it will limit the movement, but not the top height.

I would be careful about making mods. Make sure that they will not exceed the design geometry or the maximum capabilities of the unit. I doubt that the arms on the rear wheels have enough range to go significantly higher.

I can remove the clips and sit it on the ground ....but the top height is around 6"(thats being generous) and the cylinder seems to be fully extended... if mine raised to 14" I'd be happy with that.

Sounds like something is not right with it. I wonder if it has been modified?

Before making your own mods, I would put some effort into making sure that it is operating properly.

I think so too...although I looked at a lot of pics of simliar models and everything appears to be in original order. Does yours have the lift cylinder in the front or rear?

Thought I'd follow up with what I did to correct my height adjustment problem... I ended up buying a 3" bore 12" stroke to replace the 8" stroke lift cylinder, now it lifts up to 12-14" and none of the linkage seems to be in a bind....cut 10 acres today trouble free!! The new cylinder seems like it might be closer to what was on this bush hog from factory.... Looking forward to brush hoggin a little more this week.
