3-Point Hitch Post hole digger for kubota bx2660

I've searched and can't easily find. Need a post hole digger for my bx and have been told by some that any size will work, but most say I need a smaller one because the bx can't lift high enough the "normal" size one. Have found a woods for about $900 and a shaver for about $700. Any advice on size and if the shaver is a good choice with quality same as the woods brand?

I own a B7610 and I went through this dilema on here a few months ago with trying to determine what PHD would work for me. Lots of the same old "know it all" advice from guys who didn't own more than a lawn tractor.........SO........I researched lots and lots on my own and decided on the one that TSC offers. Glad I did and yes, it should work just fine on a BX. I just finished 800 feet of fencing with 32 9 inch x 3 foot holes in red Georgia wet clay with zero problems either on power or height limitations. In addition I did 9 12 inch holes 3 feet deep for a pole barn/shed.........So.....for me, I have no problems with the TSC PHD. What I really appreciate is their policy of "try it, if it doesn't work right bring it back". Good folks.........God bless.....Dennis

I had a Taylor Way I bought from Barlows. I used it on a B3200, BX2660 and my nephew used it on his BX2360.There was a bit of a problem transporting it on the BX when I reached the bottom of a hill and tractor was on flat land and PHD was hitting the ground. No big problem, just pulled the PHD forward with a bungee cord, rope, etc which effectively raised the bottom of it. Had no problems with power or operation. When it stopped going down and wasn't deep enough I just kept it running and slightly moved back or forward just a tad and it would rebite.

First of all - This might be lengthy.

My travels brought me within about 2 miles of the Petersburg, Va store so I decided to swing by and maybe get a PHD.

Agrisupply now lists 3 tractor posthole diggers:

I thought any one of the three would do for me, but I like to see things before I buy them.

SO I get there and look. They only had 1 set up, the #31391, and I was told they others in crates, but no #48598's, just #31391's and #69499's, the store guys referred to the #69499's as the "black ones". (They said the metal shroud on it was much cheaper).

Well the #31391 Posthole Digger 50 HP looked ok to me (definitely no Bush Hog but hopefully sturdy enough). So I bought it, a #56932 (9" auger for Dale Philips), and a #56933 (12" auger for Dale Philips). Then also a handful of shear bolts of both sizes. Agrisupply carries 2 line of augers, these looked like the heavier duty ones.

I forgot gear oil, had to buy that later.

Assembly was straightforward. The only problem was I couldn't get the oil drain plug out, but I'll get that later.

Quality - The metal looks good, heavy. The paint job is less than adequate. It's like an afterthought. Big drips, bolts painted solid. Almost reminds me of a rattle can paint job.

So I put it together and found that everything fit and with my 3 PT raised to the max I had about two or three inches of clearance for the point of the auger to miss the ground

Drilled several hole in fairly soft soil. Seems to work well and a good bang for the buck.

Note that ground clearance is mainly a problem when traveling between holes. For that I'll bungee the bit up.

A PHD is another one of those implements that you use and use hard for a short period of time and then never use it again for months, perhaps years, or at least that's my personal experience. I used it last week to dig 25 holes but that was the first time in at least 3 years. I bought it about 15 years ago and used it to dig about 200 holes in that time on the back of a B2400. It's a medium duty unit with a 9" auger and it has served me well. I can't remember the name or the cost but it certainly wasn't any $900, probably under $500. If it's something that you're going to be using often, over a long period of time, that might justify a higher priced heavy duty unit but otherwise, if it's for normal "home" type use, you can save a few dollars by going with a lighter, less expensive one.

Not so. My nephew didn't have quick hitches and not sure I used them when I used the PHD, maybe I did but not sure but sure he didn't on his BX2360. He doesn't have quick hitches

I have a tractor supply post hole digger. When used on my B7800 I had just a few inches of clearance. When I get off of work today I will hook it up to the BX and see how it fits with some pics. I am curious myself.

I have a Taylor Way post hole digger 12" auger that was on a B3200. Hooked it up to nephews BX2360 and drilled a few holes. It was sitting about 4"s off the ground so we installed my cheap QH's to extend it further back which raised it several more inches off the ground so I can now testify to the fact that it will work. Here's pictures for proof that are only 30 minutes old or less. One picture with it on B3200. Going down hill or on flat land should be no problem. He was going up hill so it got closer. Steep uphill may require backing up. No problem with power of tractor. Only issue is dragging ground.

Here's a video that Ted made a few years back that explains the differences between a full size phd and a compact phd. We've since replaced the Leinbach diggers with our ETA Post Hole Diggers which feature several improvements.

The post hole digger would not work on a BX. Where the top link goes , the metal is touching the tractor prohibiting it from raising up any farther. As you can see the auger is too long. I guess a subcompact tractor post hole digger will be needed.

Thank you for checking. This is what I suspected. My guess is that there are enough differences in phd brands that some work on the small tractors and some don't. Also, I think the adjustments can make some difference. I come to this conclusion since there examples of it working, (johnthomas) post and some others. Most reputable dealers say they won't, usually.

:ashamed: Wow, one has to be careful what they write "on paper". I know I had/have some quick hitches, sold 2 different pairs and still have one, but didn't remember letting my nephew use/borrow them but it sounds like what I'd do to help him. Guess since he lived down the hill from me I let him use them to keep it off the ground. Think he was the one told me about using a bungee cord to pull it toward his tractor which solved his problem of being close. I did ponder where you came to the conclusion/idea that I had used quick hitches when I used it. Guess your research skills are much better than my memory. I'm going to start adding more disclaimers to the bottom of my posts in the future to cover all lapses in memory. There was a day that I would have paid money if anyone had caught me in a misquote or mis statement but that has been long ago.:laughing:

Here is a picture of my Lienbach 7200JR on my BX24. Not a whole lot of ground clearance the way I had it setup because I needed to dig deeper. There are 5 adjustment holes for the boom.

Funny. What bugged me when searching was I couldn't find bx2660 and post hole digger together in any thread. Amazingly though, after I made my post, I saw several "related" threads at bottom of mine?????

Maybe I'm not using search feature correctly?

Here's a link with a regular PHD on my BX2200, I tried one that another neighbor has and the way it was made, the yoke would bind before I could get the top link connected. Some of the regular PHDs will work on the BX and some won't so you have to try before you buy.
