EcoBoost engine defective?

Out of curiosity today, I went to the local Ford dealer and counted the total number of F150s and the number of those that were Ecoboost. 13 out of 59. When the Ecoboost was first introduced it was about 50%.

Number on the lot of one dealer has absolutely no correlation with sales numbers.

Why do they have to give it stupid name like ecoboost. It's direct injection. Lots of cars have direct injection now. It's a technology that came from the high pressure diesels developed in the early 2000. Volkswagen and Bosch invented the high pressure piezo injectors for the tdi, and soon after it started to be used in gas engines. Ford is about ten years behind.

I believe it also has a turbocharger, hence the boost part.

The name is just for marketing purposes, the same as everyone else does. It wouldn't be selling in near the same quantities if it didn't have an 'eco' name.

Anybody priced a set of replacement turbos for that 150,000 mile tune up yet?..

They're a little cheaper than the turbos for the 100,000 mile tune up of a diesel.

Find me anything from Ford that shows the turbos need to be replaced at 150k miles. I'll make you a bet...a large cup of coffee of the winner's choice. If you can find something that shows the turbos need to be replaced as part of regular maintenance (which is what a "tune up is" at 150k miles, you win. If you don't, I win.

Yep I did before I bought mine. Seen them online for around $800. Doubt I will reach 150,000 before I sell mine so not a major concern. You needing one? Haven't heard of anyone having failures.

I do remember reading somewhere from ford that they were designed for a service life of 150,000 miles. But like you that doesn't mean you replace them at that interval. Run them until they fail. Every object in this world will eventually fail. When it does, replace it. Simple enough.

Precisely! It's called MTBM (mean time between failures). Ford never should have said anything about it, because people see that, and think "oh no, I've got to replace the turbos at 150k!" Truth is, diesels have had turbos for years, and people swear by them. Put them on a gasser and 'oh no!'
