Anyone know the advertised fuel consumption of a M7040 pulling a load? I pulling a 6 shank Hay King pasture renovator in hard soil and my tractor likes the fuel. 6 hrs use and one better be looking for storage tank.

My 7040 uses about a gallon an hour for typical light usage. When plowing, discing, or other heavily ground engaging work it uses at least double of that. Bushhogging with a 8' cutter is somewhere in between. But you'd have to expect that more stressful use will require more energy (fuel).

A pasture renovator in hard soil would be similar to pulling box blade shanks. That requires a lot of HP and low gears in my experience.

I have not seen a fuel usage chart for any tractor. There are just too many variables.

University of Nebraska tractor test show GPH under different load situations plus HP hrs per gallon. But Kubota doesn't elect to have their tractors tested at Nebraska.

Wow! What a timely thread. I've been sitting here in my office trying to decide what type of fuel transfer station to buy to refuel both the new M7040 and our L3130 - mostly trying to figure out how big a tank I need. To separate my "wants" from my "needs" I've been trying to estimate the fuel I've used in the 10 years I've owned my L3130. My best guess stood at a gallon for every hour of usage. I think I read somewhere that the M7040 gets better than average mileage (but I don't recall where I read that). At any rate, I figured using the same "gallon per hour" number was probably safe. This - of course - led to the realization that the 500 gallon tank on tandem axles that looked so cool was probably a bit of overkill...

But they sure are pretty!

Of course if I were to fill it up I'd have enough fuel to last a lifetime - not to mention one heck of a fuel bill!

The state of Nebraska is the only state that the tests are required for the sale in that state. The tests are quite expensive for what the market is there for a small number of sales meaning the people from other states would have to pay for it.

What you state is true but for ""many years many brands"" of tractors have been tested at the University of Nebraska. So I guess many people from many countries have been paying for the INFORMATION.

Agreed.

The Nebraska tractor tests have been the gospel of tractor performance data for decades. I am astonished to learn that Kubota chooses not to submit their tractors for testing.

If they plan to play in the big sand box they will need to do so.

It all depends on what they feel they will gain. My Kubota literature has fine print "not for sale in Nebraska". Does Kubota feel they are losing only the Nebraska market? Have they surveyed customers from other states and determined the rest of USA market lost by not testing is insignificant? I know in he old days we would not buy without first checking the NE results published every year in the Implement & Tractor Red Tractor Book that was sitting on all dealer's desks. We're very leery of buying a Kubota ag tractor due to lack of comparable results and as a result our ag tractors are NE tested and only the CUT is a non-tested Kubota.

I talked to a Kubota Inc. representative this AM and he stated that the reason Kubota didn't have their tractors tested at Univ. of Nebraska was because JD & the Univ. of Neb. were "in bed together" IE JD gave money to Univ. of Nebraska indicating the results were tainted towards JD.

My new m7040 seems to be a gallon a hour tractor also . At lest I already have a 200 gallon tank and pump. And a 50 gallon or two

I don't put much stock in the nebraska test. I know a guy that bought a 50hp tractor in the 90's. It was tested at Nebraska. It was low on power. The dealer dynoed it and it made 28hp. They tested 3 new tractors on their lot and they made 28hp.

A Gallon and hour seems about right. I run about that when I'm running the shredder and a little more when I was digging a stock tank with the box blade and FEL.

I know my M7040(23.8 gal. cap) uses more than a gallon an hr pulling a 9 ft disc cutter. It was filled up at 10AM and I had to take fuel to it at 7 PM because the low fuel light was flashing

As previously stated, heavy ground-engaging work really burns the fuel. About double for my tractor.

My low fuel light comes on after about 18, or so, gallons are used. If yours is similar then that is 9 hours for 18 gallons. Two gallons per hour for an 9' disc is within expectations.

I think both my kubota's tanks are under sized. No idea how many gallons per hour they use, but when running a 6' woods BB. behind my MX5100 it runs through a tank in under 8 hours... really is irritating to fill it up in the AM, and again at lunch... Just needs about 5 gallons more capacity.
The 9540 isn't as bad.. but I would love to have enough fuel to not have to watch the tank..
Actually same goes for my wife's subaru... 13 gallon tank with a 250hp V6?

Do you fill it to the brim or just until it reads full? I fill both the 9540 and RTV to the very top. They will run for a very long time before the gauge even moves.

I fill the neck to within an inch or two of the opening. On another tractor forum a man stated he had a Farmall 95 that he used to pull a JD 4 row 7000 planter for 2.3 hrs and only used 2.1 gallons of fuel. I think I might trade my M7040 for a Farmall. I looked up Farmall 95 on Nebraska test and it stated it would use 5.1 GPH.:confused3:

I do.

For decades the NE tests have been the best data available and remain so today.
