YM2002D Tire size

I have a YM2002D that has 6x14 tires on the front and 8.3x24 on the rear. Some web sites say it should have 5x14 on the front and others say 6x14. My question is. Can I put 9.5x24 on the rear?

I also have a YM2002d. I can tell you the YM2002d parts manual from Japan shows 8.3-24s on back and 5-14s on front. Hoyes also confirmed that to be correct. I personally think your front to rear ratio is off like you have it. Unsure about what it would be with 9.5-24s and 6-14s. I know the way I use my 4 wheel drive I want the ratio as close to correct as is possible.

I bought this tractor at Fredricks 9 years ago. It has always had 6x14s on the front. I have noticed that tractors with 6x14 on the front have 9.5x24 on the rear. I just replaced the front tires about 6 mo. ago so when I replace the rears I would realy like use 9.5x24. I have never had any problems with the combination that came on the tractor. Just think the 9.5 would be better proportioned.

The tractor would have came with 5x14 on the front & 8.3-24 on the rear. Since you have 6-14 on the front now you would be fine going with a 9.5-24 on the rear. In fact, it would get you back really close to the original ratio.

This is the way I would see it as well,
Though not sure of the actual size different in height of a 5" tire verses a 6" due to this size being the width not actually the height, The 14" wheel size remains the same, does anyone know what is the height differences between the two?
I know the difference on the rear from 8.3 <to> 9.5 in approx 1.5 + 1.5 giving a total of approx 3" in height ,

Research shows me 5-14 72", 8.3-24 117". Using a 1.67 ratio that would give you a 2.769 front lead.

Research shows me 6-14 77", 9.5-24 123". Using a 1.67 ratio that would give you a 4.544 front lead.

Both leads are acceptable I believe. I do not know the actual front to rear ratio of a YM2002D. Just using the 1.67 ratio to compare the different tire sizes. I wish I knew the correct ratio.

I am back again believing the YM2002D has 42 tooth and 26 tooth gears in the drop box which would give you a 1.615 front to rear ratio. If you run the above numbers you will get a -.6153 for the 5-14s and 8.3-24s. You will get a 1.102 for the 6-14s and 9.5-24s. I really think there are a little different circumferences on rice tires verses American R1 tires and also may be a difference from one brand to the other. My conclusion is that the two different sizes should interchange. As everyone here knows this is mostly a bunch of rattling and not much conclusive evidence.

2nd edit. Back with some more not so scientific information. I put my YM2002D on cement, marked the tires and cement, rolled front and rears 1 revolution, again marked cement. Got 116-1/2" on rear 8.3-24 ricers and 71-7/16" on front 5-14s. My rear ricers do have wear so I would believe they would have originally been 117" or more. My fronts are fairly new but I'm sure have a little wear. For whatever it is worth (not much) that all equates out to a .9686 ratio using the 1.615 formula. I believe that is an acceptable number although I wish I had a plus number. :thumbsup:

Sounds like it will work fine to me. :thumbsup: I ended up putting 8x16 fronts on mine recently it came with 7x16 however my rears were not oem size and were larger dia. The 8's gave me a +3.45% front to rear bias and it works good I can feel it pull now. Lots better than it was working where the rears were close to pushing the fronts it always felt like it was bucking up. fwtw

I had a heck of a time Winston getting the oe bridgestone roll out dont remember if I ever did now? I ended up doing my own computations along with the Titan tech man.

What are you doing to wear out all those tires? Loader work on concrete?

Probably replacing them because of bad dry rot. Fredricks (at that time) didn,t put new tires on like he does now.

Mine were replaced last yr

The tires were the original tires that came on the tractor when it was built in 1981 or 82. the front tires were dry rotted but the rear tires still have good tread on them but showing some age. I don"t need to replace the rears but would like to have the larger size on the tractor. I just bought a Massey 231 tractor but I don"t think I can give up my YM2002D because of the 4WD.

R Barger, I have to ask if your ym2002d has power steering? And is your engine got a tag 3t80u-nap?

It does not have power steering.I use the front loader all the time with no problems steering. I will check the engine model and let you know.

One thing I found out today about the effect of up sizing my tractors tires, I went to hook up my finish mower and was trimming down some high spots and happen to look back to see the mower had not cut close to the level as before, so I climed off the tractor, done a quick assessment and found that the finish mower was now about 2 inches higher than as before, This is at it's lowest level/bottom out of the hitch arms, While scratching my head over this a thought come to me, I realized it must had to do with the larger tires I'm now running, Nothing more I can do short of letting the air out of the tires or welding another bracket up higher on the mower to move the Cat pins higher, So! if anyone else has bright idea's as myself to go with larger tires beware of the trickle down effects, Your rotary cutters might not cut low enough anymore,

Do you have xtra holes in the lift arms. Mine wasn't going low enough and I connected the lift arms in the other holes.It now goes lower but not as high

Clemsonfor, Yes true it does ride on it's 4-wheels, but still apparently the arms are at it's lowest point, even if were to remove the wheels it would go no lower, Kinda like a Bush-hog cutter with no trailing wheel, come to think of it I remember when I was setting my tractor up for the bush-hog, at that time I was having issue's with it dropping too low and scalping the ground, But of course it had the smaller 8.3 tires on at the time, When I brought the issue here You guy's suggest that I tighten the bolt and spring clamp on the lowering lever so that I can accurately position the bush-hog,
This worked for the most part, although the bush-hog would gradually drop lower again, I started looking around at the linkages under the seat and found what looked to be a device that was disconnected or either had fell apart, I hooked it back up and made a few adjustments and found that it had something to do with the floating feature, It has a key-way that a rod slides up/down through or positive a locking position, I set it at the lock position and it's been working fine since,.................
I will see if I can set it back up to float and perhaps it will drop lower, I doubt it though,
Kenmac & Winston1 , I think y'all might be onto something with the connecting links, I'll remove them from the arms and see if that'll allow them to drop lower, If so! then I'll need to either drill out another hole in the fixed link (if there's room), or get a longer fixed link, I'm sure the adjustable side link will let out enough,.... Thanks for your suggestions,:thumbsup: and Again for those who thinking of using a larger size tire, You could possibly be having to adjust/modify or change the side links,
