Package coming my way, USPS delivery tracking says "Expected Delivery By: December 22, 2012" but it isn't here yet and there is a scan saying that it left the Rochester sort facility today.
I suspect that the delay is due to the storm as I have a UPS package going through the same area which had "Late trailer" and "Adverse weather conditions" in activity list, but I find it interesting that there isn't a revised delivery date.

Ahhh yes, the delivery follies.

Here we kinda live subject to UPS, FEDEX, USPS and their tracking systems.

Amazing the stuff coming here take seem to take a vacation in Honolulu.

My experience, USPS tracking is just one step ahead of a complete joke. It says...it's shipped, and gives an expected arrival date...I don't seem to be able to follow it thru the system the way I can with a UPS package. Further, although I have an extremely large mail box, any package bigger than a big envelope is held at the post office with a "too large for mailbox" note in the mailbox. In actuality, the mail folks simply didn't want to mess with carrying a package and make me go pick it up. True, MY box is BIG and many, many packages will fit in it, but they simply remember all the other smaller mail boxes along the road and treat me as I am a small box kinda guy.:mur:

My looking at the UPS site, very accurate, I see out for delivery means it will be there by 9-10 PM this time of year. UPS always makes it per their web site. USPS, forget it don't know where it is. You would that the USPS would have better tracking. Fedex is some where between the two. DHL, is just kind of scary out here in the country.

The USPS tracking is a joke. I frequently receive packages before the tracking info is even available. I had one package run in circles. Came here, went back to the origin, then came back.
I like UPS the best. Always right on and instantly available updates.

I've seen it where my package has been in the city depot which is 45 minutes from me and it couldn't be delivered for two days due to "Adverse Weather Conditions". Well I normally could accept that BUT its been in the middle of the summer and the sun was splitting the rocks!

I have received several packages this month and in the past months from both UPS and USPS. All were received by the posted delivery date. I suspect your delay is either due to weather (possibly a vehicle breakdown or accident) or high volume due to the Holiday. It happens. Its very hard to get packages on time around the Holidays. You will probably get it today. The posted delivery date is when they originally expect the item to be delivered in ideal conditions. The tracking info only updates when the package gets scanned the next time it is moved from the vehicle it is in. I suggest if you want to order something as a Holiday gift you place your next order earlier.

Our mail carrier brings anything that won't fit in our mailbox up the driveway to our door. We filled out a card a couple years back asking what our preferences were for things that won't fit in the mail box. Is this something that is up to the local postmaster's policies maybe? The other place we lived in Maine, we got the pickup card, like you described.

I used to get the little yellow slip saying that they tried to deliver the package and I wasn't home. Someone is always here, and they were just too lazy to knock on the door. FedEx, UPS and DHL never had any trouble getting out of their trucks and leaving the package on the door step. That is, until were assigned an mailman. Harry is excellent, the sort of mailman from an earlier time. He always delivers packages, and whenever I can, I spend a few minutes talking to him.

I will probbaly get it today (might have to drive down to the post office though), This was a last minute thing so if it doesn't get here, I will understand, but I thought that it was interesting that both UPS and USPS had delays and UPS updated the delivery date, but USPS didn't.

Fedex is about the same. We ordered something and it shipped from the west coast on the 15th, with an estimated arrival time on the 22nd on the east coast. 22nd came and went and the tracking still said 'arrived at facility in Sacremento', but nothing about it leaving that facility. The only change was that the estimated delivery date disappeared. I called them and they said it was due to the storm. Late last night the tracking had it arriving in Maryland, with a new estimated arrival date of the 26th. This morning, it's 'on fedex vehicle for delivery' with estimated arrival date of today. There never was an entry for leaving the facility in CA, but there was one for leaving the Maryland facility. But it does appear it will get here in time to be wrapped and placed under the tree, so I'm happy.

I guess the Post office delivery depends on where you are, as we have a large rural mailbox, and they will try to fit any package in it they can. and it will take some pretty big ones.. If it is too large, they will bring it to the door, about 1/3 mile away.. So I can't complain.

4shorts, I guess it was too hot? Maybe make them some lemonade?:)

The USPS tracking system is a joke for sure. I was looking for a package and noticed that they sent me a notification that the local post office had "received shipping data" from the sending post office. That's about the most useless info I can imagine to me. So the local post office knows I'm gettin' a package. . . Heck! I coulda told them that.

However, my delivery person is top notch. She brings all packages to my house and beeps her horn. If I don't come out, she brings the packages up my steps on my deck and puts the package in front of my door or in my firewood box if there is bad weather. She got a nice gift card for Christmas from us. She does great work.:)

When we lived out in the boondocks in Navarro County, the first time I went into the Post Office, they asked me to fill out a little card on which I told them if I wanted packages too big for the box kept at the Post Office or if I wanted them left if no one was home, and if so where on the property I'd like them left. Needless to say, I never had a complaint.

And now in town, I was never asked, but the mail carrier does just leave packages by the front door.

But I agree that the "tracking system" really isn't. FedEx is best, followed by UPS.

The "Estimated delivery date" has been updated to today now that it is "Out for Delivery"

You are expecting way to much from a government program, .50 stamps and they are going bankrupt, sure blame emails, but my mailbox still seems to have just as much in it as it did in 92, so if it comes by Xmas, be happy. Next time use another shipper if you want more. Sorry, but its truism.

My mail service is EXELLENT!
But then any extra things from the garden getting hung on the mail box really helps! ;)
Couple dozen cucumbers over a few weeks can really make a difference.
