But that only applies when there IS a signature required. For normal packages, they just bring it the next day. At least in my experience. And I don’t think they ever send something back. In my experience they hold it at the Post Office until you come get it.

The article is taken back to the PO and marked as "Left Notice". It is held for 10 days and then returned to sender.

tis a shame so many are unsatisfied with their mail service from USPS. On my rural route there has never been a non delivery. I have lock box on the road side, and a big ol fashioned box by my gate. If something is huge or needs a signature, they drive up to the home and beep. Or, they leave a notice in the lock box that says they put the item in the box by the gate.

I have shipped stuff for decades via USPS in a town that now numbers 2,800 and it is the best dang postoffice you would want.
We tip our mail delivery persons every year with cookies, or meat, or fruit or some thing real nice that is non-cash. Did I say we are grateful for our mail people?

I think it would be more correct to say, that for many of us, it's a shame the USPS has such unsatisfying service for so many....
