It looks like the white-throated variety of sparrow.

Your bird appears to be a Chipping sparrow. (Two pics of Chipping sparrows taken from around my house shown below.)

I'm curious why it let you approach it so closely.

Such is the nature of chipping sparrows. They seem to have no fear of humans, and for good reason. I wouldn't want to eat one, would you?

It did not seem concerned about me at all, I stood right next it and it ignored me.
