After he got out, I worked with a guy who was a Diver in the Canadian Navy.

He said his ship was the envy of the North Atlantic fleet. It would get fixed in dry-dock, launched, and then get about 30-80 miles out, and it would break down again. Back to dry-dock.

He spent so much time drinking in the bars in Glasgow, that he had the local accent down perfect. Or, at least he thought so, after having a few....

If life hands you lemons......

Somebody was joking about fixing up the U-boat they think has been found up in Labrador. Consensus is that it would probably work better than those junk subs the Brits stuck us with. Shame on Ottawa for not doing proper (technical) due diligence on used military equipment - I can't imagine that any competent naval architect would have OK'd the purchase.

If you mean the V-22 tilt-rotor, one of my customers (years ago) did some of the avionics on it. I'm not a pilot, but I get the impression that the learning curve on the V-22 is non-trivial.

That my take on our system. because it covers everyone not everyone is going to be happy. Theirs definitely room for improvement but what large system of any kind is perfect?
Who/what is mitt?
Why do so many people not like Obama? The problem I see is he like the sound of his own voice. At first I thought he was a great public speaker, now I'm mostly annoyed by his voice.
Last question why do so many Americans not want a health care system similar to ours or something in Europe?
My questions are not meant to be antagonizing, but rather spark further discussion on the topic to further my understanding. Sorry in advance if someone get offended.

Because that's what Rush, tells them.

EE-Bota - The key problem with the citizen united decision is that it allows anonymous contributions.

The Supreme Court decision last month allowing corporations to spend unlimited money on behalf of political candidates left a loophole that campaign finance lawyers say could allow companies to pay for extensive political advertising while avoiding the disclosure requirements the court appeared to leave intact.

Senator Charles E. Schumer of New York proposes requiring nonprofit groups to identify donors for political advertising.

Experts say the ruling, along with a pair of earlier Supreme Court cases, makes it possible for corporations and unions to donate anonymously to nonprofit civic leagues and trade associations. The groups can then use the money to finance the types of political advertisements that were at the heart of last month’s ruling, in Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission

It is not good for our democracy when an election can be influenced by $100s of millions and the source is not disclosed. Why would they want to hide from public scrutiny?
Freedom of speech but we don't know who is speaking. (I could add the conspiracy theory here):confused2:

With early 1800's stuff... sure! :)

No way, I see your trick. You are trying to freeze me to death. Come down here and have a heat stroke; it's your turn. It's only fair.

Could be Loren, I don't know for sure. But as you well know, the Supreme Court cannot help that, and the lawmakers should remedy that problem if it in fact exists, and it should not be a Constitutional issue to plug that loophole.

Wealth = Health here too.

Health status of poor deteriorating, poll shows - The Globe and Mail

(Context for non-Canucks - the Globe is regarded as decidedly NOT left wing here).

I'm not arguing for or against, just putting the data out there.

Our system is not as Universal as it may appear, esp. from outside the country.

(Yes, I also want to know how I can get paid to conduct polls that re-state the obvious).

What do you expect when our President tells us all how lousy we are and what a bad Country we are then apologizes for us all around the world. Then when you tax the rich thinking they will sit still while their pockets are picked.

SOAK the rich LOSE the rich.

If it wasn't for family ties....I would be going to the Caribbean ~ somewhere...if the election goes the wrong way...Canada is a beautiful country but it is just too cold for me...What only 2 mos. of summer I mean above say 75 deg....

That's why I had to turn down their war of 1812 rematch. I suggested they come down here and face heat stroke with us, but maybe we should all convene our meeting the Caribbean. Then, if we still feel like it, "it's on!" I doubt I will feel much like fighting down there, so maybe we will just have a few rounds and hit the beaches instead.

Do you have a country in the Caribbean in mind? What is there about the country that would attract you? Often the grass on the other side of the fence looks greener.

I would think the health care system in Canada along with its considerable social programs and tax rates would be more of a problem than the climate ?

I think it's funny that there is such a pervasive myth that we as a nation rely so heavily on social programs. I'm pretty sure the US has us beat hands down in that department.

Where does that idea come from???
