Forum Upgrade - Any Issues?

/ Forum Upgrade - Any Issues? #121
I was on another forum that updated software, and the biggest problem for most users was the change to a Helvetica/Arial type of font. I think the same thing happened here. The previous font was a lot more readable in my opinion. This new one doesn't flow as smoothly and the font size within posts (and editor box) is too small.

Before someone tells me to zoom in my browser (which I already know I can do) I want to point out that 1) it's really only the font size inside the posts that's a problem (all other content is sized OK) and 2) many of us run through the "Today's posts" list and open each thread of interest in a new tab. Obviously it's not practical to manually zoom every single tab.

So, it would be great if the font size in posts and the editor window was a teeny bit bigger, or just give users the option to make global font settings. BTW, I'm only 42 and still have good eyesight, so this isn't a complaint from a grumpy Mr Magoo...

I don't know what the previous font was, but I definitely preferred it for readability over this new Helvetica/Arial style font.

thanks,

Tried that. Adjusted out past 21.56.452 reluctions. While that helped, now I have the tractor beam issue too. The fourth phase of the trans-location deflipperating convergence deionization blinker fluid control has caused a 180 degree reverging flutter in the tractor beam.

Try resetting the fibulation relutor bisection locator adjustment. I find 20.2 reluctions works for me.

The "reply" button at the bottom of threads isn't working for me. I have to either 1) quote someone then delete the quote or 2) scroll back to top to hit the reply button

The TBN Favicon seems to have been replaced with a VBulletin checkmark this morning on my computer here. Running FF13.0 on Win7 x64

Should update if you do a hard refresh (shift + refresh) or update the bookmark. The icon wasn't working for me yesterday but is today.

Wow! And you picked up tractor beam issues there? That is amazing! Is your deionization filter possibly causing interference at the sub-sectional refractioning level? I'd check that before I turned it on again, no sense in destabilizing the ion inhibitor for no reason.;)

The "Reply to Thread" button at the bottom works when using Internet Explorer (for me, version 7). It DOES NOT work when using Firefox (I have version 12).

Changed back to Verdana for post content. Better?

Same with me, "Reply To Thread" does not work.
I use Firefox as I use Linux, even on Windows I use Firefox :)

Added to to-do list.

And I would still like to have a color difference between read and un-read posts/threads. Instead of just the Bold and un-bold. Similar to the last version where it was yellow for unread and grey for read:thumbsup:
I agree - the Bold vs.Unbold is barely noticeable. Having the different background color to distinguish read/unread threads was much nicer.

Hi Everybody,

As you can see we have upgraded the forums with a new software version and new design (which will soon be carried out to all pages of the site). We still have a bunch of stuff on our to-do list but would like to use this thread for bug reports or any questions you may have.

We will address issues as quickly as possible and reply when we can. We will be tweaking the forum for days, if not weeks. The old version of the forum was four years old and had been optimized over that period of time.

Thank you!

You mean other than it just looks amateurish and primitive?

Ahh, I'm on FF

When opening a thread, i would prefer the old method of being positioned at the point where I last viewed rather than having to click the "View First Unread" button. I have dial-up internet. Now when I open a thread, I have to wait for the contents of the page to load, and then I need to click the "View First Unread" button and wait again. A per-user setting for this feature would be fine with me.

I appreciate the fact that the administrators are actively seeking input from forum members and not just installing software and saying good luck. Thanks.

Agree.

As somebody noted above, this version of VBulletin introduces the 'modern' look that I think is a mistake. - where the site's header text, the navigation icons, (and probably ads) are huge and use 90% of the page real estate. While the actual intelligent content, the members' posts that we came here to read, are tiny. This appearance seems to say that user posts are the least important part of the site.

Maybe the world has moved on to reading text on touch screens that need huge icons but call me old & grumpy -I'm dragging my feet on that.

I am still trying to figure out what the color of the envelope icon means. When looking at the list of threads, some are orange/reddish while others are blue. Anyone?

Using the iPhone app suddenly the participated option button no longer acknowledges any threads that I have posted in since June 2. More difficult to see if there are any updates. I presume this is a result of the upgrade as it was normal yesterday morning but late afternoon, evening and this morning it does not work the same.
Additionally it states I no longer have access to private messages. I have tried to log off and back on to see if that has any affect but not so much. Actually was told once I could not log off but was able to after several tries.

I think it helped as well as toning down the background to a grey helped. For those of us with old eyes it would still be nice to have the option of increasing the font size.

Hitting the Ctrl and the minus key once to zoom out one step will fix that in my experience

I have the normal icon up there.

Also, the bottom "reply to thread" button didnt work for me just now in FF10.0...

Same here using Chrome.

In the web design world, content is king, or at least it used to be. Any change that takes the focus away from content or interferes with ease of navigation (IE: finding content), is a good way to drive away site visitors.
