Don't you just hate all the new fangled gas and diesel cans.
They think they're so much smarter making the tank safer for us stupid people with all the new regulations. In my opinion it's easer to spill harder to pour. I'll bet the people in charge of these designs never even use the gas/ diesel cans they make.

Cheap plastic spouts with no vents on the can. Turn this push that.
Yeah just what I want to do hold a 6 gal tank upside down stretched over my hood with one hand on some stupid plastic flimsy lever for 5 minutes while it's burping, gurgling, trying to breathe (and all thats from me).
How do you guys fill your tractor tank? What's the best setup.

I put a couple of drums(one for gas, one for diesel)on a pallet up on a tote so they gravity feed into whatever, then just load pallet into the skiff to refill

Some times a good sharp pocket knife to cut off the safety tip and punch a vent hole does wonders. ;)

Can you post pics of your setup for filling? Thanks

I take the stupid no spill spout off and pour from the gaping opening into a giant tractor funnel... at least until I get the big farm tank fixed up. Then I'll just squeeze the nozzle on the end of the hose and let gravity do all the work.

Make everything idiot proof and the world will create a better idiot.

Funny, I was just about to post a question in the "General Owning and Operating" area on just this topic. In searching, I noticed the same kind of reviews (gripes) of products I'm seeing here. Ugh! Anyone have a recommendation for the least crappy type available?

Get a 5 gal racing fuel jug from Jegs, Summit or local race shop, they have a 3" cap with a smaller 1" removable plug, for installing a fitting and clear hose. They have the old style vent on jug, last one i bought was about $20 for jug and $10 for hose kit. Just looked on web and see there are also new style safty valve race jugs:mad: So be sure to get one with vent. These are very tough jugs and will last a life time, avalible in red, yellow, blue and clear.

I agree, the new fuel tanks stink. I have been thinking of setting up for farm delivery.

My dealer was selling the new Kubota 5 gallon container. Pretty slick in that in shuts off when the tractor tank is full and there is no hose you have to fiddle with. Easy to fill the container at the station as it has a wide mouth and won't leak if you manage to tip it over in your wife's car..whew!

It is a bit pricey at $33 but saves me from trying to explain the "new air freshener" smell to my wife

I have 2 tanks, one 150 gallon and one 275 gallon tank, both with pumps and filters. I aquired the 275 gallon tank from a house tear down, all metal was going in the scrap dumpster then this tank appears half full of fuel! I hauled it home 7 miles on my forks, treated with it, and it burns well in my tractors. As far as im concerned that was a good find!
My final answer is bulk tank and hose . . . John

One of the prerequisites in designing is that you sign a disclaimer stating that you will never use what you've designed. Personally, I tend to eliminate some of the safety devices.

There is a saying
Which is as wise as it is witty
That a camel is a horse
That was designed by a committee.

I curse mine every time it leaks fuel all over the side of my tractor.

We gave up and got gravity feed tanks on our farms; much easier and safer than climbing up on the tractor with 5 gallon cans.

I gave up and got a 55 gallon plastic drum with a hand pump. When I got more equipment with bigger tanks, I bought one of the 240 gallon plastic totes and an electric pump. That's big enough that I can get home delivery.

5 gallon totes are okay for the smaller equipment but now I have equipment with 20 and 28 gallon tanks.

I have the 5 gallon flip off the saftey, then push and hold the lever kind of can (Blitz, next to last re-design:confused2:) But I am getting along OK with it.. Here is what I do, I have a old soft towel, that I use to put down on the hood after blowing the loose dust off. then I lift the can to the hood. (metal hood) with the can lying on its side (the valve does not leak) and the nozzle pointing at the filler neck on the tractor. Flip off the safety, and hold the lever, for about 5 minutes as it glug, glugs out. You do have to turn the can backwards to get the last of the fuel out but by that time most of the fuel has run out, and the can does not weigh much. Are these cans great? No. but I am doing OK with it and with my method, there is not much strain. Holding down the lever is easy, and you are not holding any weight.

I had a bunch of these new CARB diesel cans. My 'ventless' cans developed leaks high up in the handles [ must have dropped something on them ] and I had to buy five of these 'poly vent utility jug' things from Amazon. Cost less than $13 for the five including shipping, which is a lot of buckazoids for little plastic stuff. But at least now, I have the holes plugged so stuff can't get in the can. Unless, of course, I happen to snag the vent cap on something whilst I am dispensing diesel, the little vent opens, and air gets into the can. The diesel flows out so much faster that I can quickly [ relatively ] snap the Utility Jug Vent back in place quickly after I am done. These are also sold on Ebay, but for about $5 USD each.... from a company in Kalifornia..... go figure....... :)

Back before all the govt. mandated hard-to-use fuel containers came into being - I was using 5 gallon plastic fuel jugs like the race car guys use. I bought two yellow ones for diesel - and I had a few red ones for gasoline. The two yellow ones I've had for eight years now as fuel containers for the BX23. They hold 5 gallons, have a large mouth (probably about a 3 inch opening) -so they are easy to fill. And they are square so and will stand up in the back of the truck without falling over on most corners.

I just bought two more because I'm getting a B3200 shortly and it has a larger tank (and will use more fuel).

Speedway Motors still carries them - I believe the Co. that makes the jugs is Scribner(s)?

I've had one of these jugs for something like 20 years for gasoline - still works just great.

Plus they're nowhere near as expensive as the newfangled cans.

When I'm feeling too lazy to fill the tank with a can, I make a road trip to the gas station.

I struggled with a decent solution for this. Didn't want to keep lots of fuel on hand or wrestle a big tank around. Last year I ran across a Sierra Tools Battery Operated Transfer Pump. They are currently available from Amazon.com for $11.99. It uses 2 D batteries. I set my 5 gal cans on an old towel on the hood of my L5240HSTC. It empties the can in about 3 minutes. I've pumped 80 gals on the original batteries. The thing is one of my best ever finds. Last week I bought two more of them for another application and one as a gift for a friend with a CUT.
