Air filter change, wow!

I'm late to this one, but my TYM233 has the inner/outer filters. I try to blow them out regularly to get the gross stuff gone. It also has a removeable screen in front of the radiator...I'm ALWAYS amazed at the amount of "stuff" that it catches. I make it a point to blow it out after EVERY use. I use a leaf blower on the entire engine and frame to blow off grass, chaff, etc.

Highbeam, do you or anyone know if there are after market equivalents for that one?

There is no aftermarket equivalent for that super expensive hydro filter. Many have tried, all have failed. Mine is dented slightly and due for replacement.

I knew it was expensive and remembered at least 50$. Thought I paid in the 60s mail order from one of the excellent forum participant dealerships.

Anymore, it is not worth driving to a local tractor dealerhip for parts.

Re the big hydro filter under the floor. I've damaged it twice and had to replace it. I need that darned skid plate.

Compact Equipment Magazine had an extensive article on why to ONLY replace air filters on equipment, and to NEVER blow them out or bang them on a tire, etc.

They say NOT to reuse, clean, wash or blow out an air filter, for what seems like obvious reasons....

I'm not saying I do or don't buy into the throw them away thinking- I'm JUST reporting what I read. Part of their premise was about the stuff you CAN'T see, the microscopic sand, dust, etc. that gets dislodged and then sucked into the engine.
I did replace mine at the 400hr service, as per the manual.

Personally, I'm going to go with what the trade mag says is the thing to do based on the latest know-how regarding equipment which cost substantially more then my tractor's engine.

Air filters are cheap compared to the alternative. I'll run with a dirty filter before I'll blow one out.

My dealer said to blow the air filter from the inside-out as blowing it from the outside-in will only cause the particles to embed deeper into the filter. I bought me a telescoping blow nozzle for my air compressor at Harbor Freights. Does anyone use a shopvac to vaccum out the filter vs. blowing it off?

Yes I use the shopvac.
