I have a cub 2155 that will not start by the key but i can jump the starter and it will start. I put new ignition swith on it new starter nothing still will not start. I checked the fuses they where good and I can hear the relay clicking when I turn the key also if I have the key on I can pull the pto and here it click on and of. I know about the break switch so i checked that out and whe the switch is in the relay does not click so I am pretty sure that it is okay. If anyone can help me out plse thank u.

might try following the heavy wires running from battery to starter... on the way, you should run into the starter relay which also has a smaller wire lead coming from the switch circuit. Looks a bit like a small covered can with a mounting bracket.

With the ignition key turned to start position, should be 12 vdc supplied to the relay. If 12 vdc is present and engine starter does not energize, then most likely relay is defective. Shouldn't be too expensive to replace - part is similar to a typical ford auto starter relay, I believe...

(BTW - if yer in the habit of washing the machine down with a hose or a power washer, don't - use air instead. The tractor's elect sys will not tolerate getting soaked - will corrode at connections/switches, etc.)

More than one starting problem has been traced to a wire with a bad connection. Trace out all wires that connect to the starting circuit, make sure anything that is bolted to ground is bolted fast--nothing loose there either. Bad grounds will--or at least may--cause intermittent problems along those lines
I double the warning on washing the machine down with a hose--particularly high pressure.

Look for the solenoid and see if that isn't your problem. I service lots of tractors every year and they ALL get pressure washed, engine and all.

Good for yer bizness...

Are you putting 12v to the solenoid terminal or to the start terminal on the starter? Put a meter on the solenoid and see what the voltage is.

Did you install a factory switch? Different terminal patterns on the back.

There are about 20 or more different ignition switches for smaller machines.

I had the exact same problem, and what it turned out to be was the harness that attached to the pto switch. One of the female parts inside the harness was busted, and therefore not making a good contact to complete a circuit for the tractor to start.

Unfortunately, in order to replace the harness, you had to buy the whole wireing bundle, which was like $90. I ended up just cutting the broken connecter out of the harness, cutting off the bad connector, crimping on a good connecter, and plugging it in. Has worked great.

Hope this helps
