I really don't care for a phone ... I have to have it with me all the time for my business. I prefer emails ... I can re-read whats said, digest it, think about it and love to conclude business with an email.

Seems most places have an automated service, press 1 for english, say or enter your account number ... only to be auto told "I'm sorry I didn't understand, I'll connect you to a customer service rep" DAH ... what do you think I called for?

If I don't get it by email I will call and tell them I sent a couple emails ... and here's what I would like to discuss.

Same here, I hate using the phone. But some times the phone just works better.

I'm not all that old to have a hearing problem ... but dad gum it in the cab tractor is the worst. I can have hrs lined up and sure enough I can get call after call and have to idle down, turn down the radio and then talk.

Sometimes I just let voicemail take over.

Luckily cell phones don't work very good here where I live and work. :D

I like e-mail. I use a phone when I want an answer in a hurry but all too often it takes too long to get the right person and then tell them what you want repeatedly. In an e-mail I can easily detail exactly what I want and ask the questions I may have. If I forget to ask something I can just reply to the note and ask, even if it's after hours.

I don't expect answers right off though. Not everyone can check their e-mail everyday. If it's a business I usually give them a week for a first contact, after that then a few days for a reply. If I don't hear from them then I send another reply.

I like email as well. Same points as others have pointed out. A lot of times if I call someone, they may answer on their cell phone and I end up missing important pieces of the conversation.

However, if we are both on a land-line, then all is groovy. Cell phones or cheaper voice over IP just has not been that great for me. Don't even ask me about speakerphones, haha!

Just as a side note, I email Barlow's about a tractor question yesterday at 9:30 and had an answer by 10:30 from him, via email. He had to confirm with his service guy the answer. That is pretty good in my book.

I emailed my local dealer about an attachment and he replied in about 30 minutes. So I have been pretty lucky doing business by email most of the time.

In my dealings with Brady Barlow he is always good to return the e-mails and phone calls. If and when I buy another tractor I will contact them again.:thumbsup: Because I felt like a valued customer even after the sale.

Contact BRADY, NOW!!!! If he says he don't know what your talking about, tell him to talk to Steve. That's it's a John trade in.:D They deliver!!!!!

This is a general comment about companies that decide they are going to become an E-commerce business and it's not directed toward the OP's issue.

3 or 4 times I've been in the market for a piece of equipment and I have thousand dollar bills falling out of my pockets. I find an interesting product on their website, email them; no response.

My theory is top management decides commerce is passing them by so they need to go "Hi-Tech". They pay a lot of money to someone to set up an Internet presence and then they move on to the next big thing. Meanwhile, no one is following thru internally. Yeah, I could call them, but only if there are no competent companies selling a similar product.

My observation is that phones may soon disappear as nobody seems to answer them nowadays, at least any government service or banks.
They make you wait all day to call back at their convenience, shucks even the receptionists have recorded messages.
It has become a new game called phone tag, like I want to sit all day by the phone to await a call back. OK, a cell phone might solve that problem but I am not one that walks around with a device hanging on my ear, besides the callback will probably come while driving or when I am in the restaurant having lunch.

I'm in aviation and personal communication is all but GONE. I presume it is the same in a lot of industries. I worked at a company for eight years, and, in that time I was never once called - even after I became a manager. Everything was a text message or email. I've never seen such hostile attitudes, bickering, fear, and negativism generated by a few keystrokes in the name of "efficiency" and "increased communication" by our Dear Leader. The few times people were let go it was done over the phone. I'm 38 and it's all but ingrained in those my age and especially those younger.

End of rant  you gotta pick up the phone or look someone in the eye before you can begin to understand what's going on. I've called Barlow's many times and always had great service. It would give you the opportunity to explain that you've tried the website and never got a response. They'd probably be shocked and apologetic, or at the very least have a believable excuse.

The other thing these electronic venues for communication (email, texting) have done is change our expectations of the timeframe a response should take. Your situation illustrates this clearly. It's only been a couple of days, three of which were considered holiday time. More and more I see reviews of software, products, etc. where the creator/seller/owner gets high marks because they responded in "5 minutes" or something close to immediately.

Well said!

Okay so I'm 80 years old. I like to make my purchases face to face if possible. I'm busy and my Dealer's people are busy. But we still have time to say "Hi, how ya doin." to each and everyone. I don't waste their time and they don't waste mine. If it is an out of town purchase, I use the phone and enjoy hearing an unrehearsed conversation. Heck, I even got to talk to Ted, the star of Everything Attachments one time.

Some of these cyber folks have diarrhea of the fingers. ...IMHO

This is an update to this thread. I did call Barlow's and spoke to Brady several times re: pricing and ordering the parts.

Three out of the four parts packages arrived this past Thursday. The fourth, the No. 1 remote control assembly, was not in stock at Kubota but Brady did a search and found one that I should have by the end of the month.
