Buying Advice What valves do I want/need?

Planning on ordering a 3940L, w/cab, FEL and a tiller. Also will want the backhoe plus hydraulic thumb. Not sure if I can swing the hoe at the same time; might have to wait a year or so for that. But I want the tractor built correctly to accept it - whether it's now or later.

Unit will also see some post hole work.

Have gone through the builder on the Kubota website multiple times. I usually configure it with all 3 remote hydraulic valves: 2 double-acting and 1 float detent. Is this correct for my uses?

Also, as a loader valve option, they list: "third function valves for cab models".
For what possible applications would such valving be used or needed?

Have an L3130GST open station. Bradco 408 backhoe with a dedicated full flow backhoe circuit, that loops and disconnects three point and rear remotes. Also have 2 Kubota rear remotes, one regular and one floating for the top and tilt cylinders. On front have the WR Long third function valve for grapples and grapple bucket.
Do not use a Kubota rear remote circuit with bungee cord to run the backhoe, I think the plumbing is too small for full time use. Have heard of problems with the Kubota third function valve sticking from backpressure and would look and see what WR Long has for your tractor.

As mentioned grapple, but also for angle adjustment of a front snow plow blade is common. Or anything else you can think up and Fab up.

I have the Kubota third function(front) used for my snowplow angle and the thumb on my bucket.There has(have) been some problems with this set-up
Me included.I would recommend the W.R. Long set-up myself.

The third function provides intermittent flow for loader mounted implements such as a grapple or plow. Probably not enough flow to run most hydraulic motors. For a backhoe you will need a pro pump or a power beyond setup in addition to any rear valved outlets.

there are a bunch on here with callsigns for "handles" and really quite a few that use something else but are also hams.

Thanks for confirming. Don't have a ticket, just an SWL, but have 4 hams in family. 73's.

I too wanted to know about this, and asked in an earlier post, which I believe was missed, so I hope this is not considered a "thread hi-jack."

Now, this may be a dumb question, but I was thinking that the stock, in-cab loader valve could be plumbed up using the FEL's lift, uncurl and recurl circuits for LIFT, LEFT AND RIGHT on the snowplow set-up.

Am I mistaken, or is the third function valve superior for this work in some way I'm missing? Because I would have thought just using the joystick (especially if in an open station machine, with thick gloves, although I do realize the O.P.'s is NOT open) would be easier than trying to use a thumb-operated button.

I look forward to the replies.

I was just at my dealer yesterday, fleshing out details with regard to my L3940 purchase, and am undecided on how to go with respect to third function - so I'm glad you brought this up. This thread has been stagnant lately, so I don't consider it hi-jacking, My Hoe, and since I may be adding the the angle plow later, I would like to hear what anyone has to say on the subject in answer to your question.

I'd also like to hear more details about the problems other Kubota owners have experienced (like nybirdman mentioned) with regard to their third function valving. In another thread, I believe I read that it seems to bleed off hydraulic pressure. (?)

Edited to add another question: Can the W.R.Long set up be added at a later date, in lieu of putting the Kubota third valve on now?

Look up the threads by Rockgod, he traded his Kubota off and got a John Deere. Might want to look at some by rjkobbeman as he installed his own on his 8540.

When we bought our M8540, we were uncertain about the third function valve, so they offered to put one on later for the same price if we wanted one; never needed it.

That was a good heads up, TripleR - thanks. Read through those and some related threads. As you mentioned in one of them, "life is too short" for spending a lot of it on something that doesn't work, for whatever the reason.

As it will be a while before I get into grapple or front blade work, I think I'll skip 'Bota's 3rd valve offering. If and when I need one, I'll go with Long's (or somebody else's, at least), and add it then.

I've decided to get the BH92 w/hyd. thumb with the initial tractor purchase. Dealer is working about 12.5% down from retail; don't think I'll do better than that around here. Of course, the thumb requires its own valve (kit). So getting back to the thread title here, does that 'use up' my rear remotes? At this point, the only other rear machinery I plan on using is a tiller and post hole digger, later (without powered down). Some guys say you can't have too many remotes...

I'm not trying to load up on specs that I won't use, but I AM trying to think ahead enough to get set up for possible future uses.

Holy crap, my head is spinning with this stuff. In the old days, we might've called this "a cheap buzz", but there's nothing cheap about this!

"GL540HSTC with 3rd function FEL hydraulics for grapple and snow blade angle control.

When pushing the buttons to activate flow in one direction or the other, the circuits do not cancel when the button is released. I have to flip back and forth (top and bottom button on joystick) until the solenoid releases. This happens in both directions.

It seems to become less prevalent after about 30-45 minutes of use (fluid getting warmer??)

Any ideas gentlemen?
