I am going to try to get him on the net. Until now, he never wanted to sit down long enough to learn how to use a computer.

Looks like we may be having another TBN member here soon! As long as you get him on TBN nothing else matters:thumbsup:

I taught my father how to use the internet about 5 years ago, since he's had a couple computers and two iPads and wants an iPhone. He's still not into the blogs/facebook things though.

I wish you and your dad well, Merry Christmas!

Whatever he does, keep him busy. I had one Grandpa get cataract surgery and sit back and waste away. My other grandpa lived on the farm (alone for the last 5 years) till he was 92 and drove to town a mile away until he was 91. He had all those chores to do. His Son and my Dad keep busy until heart monitor surgery and he was 88.

If he was in the military...........buy him models used in the service he was in. Or show him this youtube video of a lawnmower flying
Flying Lawnmower - YouTube
and he may catch the RC Building bug.
Merry Christmas hugs, Brandi

I would probably ask him what he would like to do. (I don't know how to say that without sounding rude, but that was not the intent) He may have something in mind that you or any of us may not think of. I agree keeping busy doing somehting will be better than sitting in a chair and doing nothing.

I think he is reaching a turning point, and I am trying to ensure that it is a good one. I talk to him every day, and he keeps telling me all the things he isn't going to do - but nothing positive. I want to give him something to keep him busy while he recuperates from surgery. If I asked him what he really wants to do, I think the answer would be to drink beer and chase beautiful women. I kinda think mom wouldn't care much for that idea.... :)

Here are some models I built and enjoy. Remote Control sailboats... The red/white/blue is my boat, from a kit(Seawind). The smaller one is mine; my son got it for me for Fathers Day four years ago or so. It was ready to go; add batteries for the servos, and raise the sails(Aquacraft Paradise).

The middle boats is one my brother and I built for our father. It was a kit also(Victor Soling).

The boats are fun to sail, but also look nice for display. There are numerous clubs that race them too. The Soling is an entry level kit; the Seawind is a mid-level one design kit. They are totally different boats, and very different to build. The Seawind and the Soling are both 1 meter boats(39"). The Paradise is 26".
