SUDT vs UDT for BX-24 Official Kubota Recommendation

/ SUDT vs UDT for BX-24 Official Kubota Recommendation #41
BX23 owners manual, Page 60, Maintenance of the Tractor, lubricants, Transmission case, Capacities - 2.5L, Lubricants - Kubota Super UDT fluid*.

The asterisk points to a note that reads: The oil used to lubricate the transmission is also used as hydraulic fluid. To ensure proper operation of the hydraulic system and complete lubrication of the transmission it is important that a multi-grade transmission fluid be used in this system. We recommend the use of KUBOTA SUPER UDT fluid for optimum protection and performance. (consult your local KUBOTA Dealer for further detail)

Also just checked in my BX23 WSM.
General section, page G6, Lubricants, Fuel & Coolant, Transmission case - KUBOTA SUPER UDT fluid*

The asterisk points to a note that says: KUBOTA original transmission hydraulic fluid.

Mine says the same thing and our Case said to use Case fluids; I would have to check my JD, but I am not going to buy different fluids for five different brands we own. One of our tractors holds 15 gallons, so the cost can get up there.

Understood, my only point is I have come to expect all manufacturers to recommend their own "specially formulated oil" not just Kubota and I have never seen anything to justify this.

Agreed we should all use what we are comfortable with.

They state "....recommend...". Nothing differant then car people. It is not needed. Old issue since the old BX22 days.

Oh I see, we're playing word games.....
No where in my original post did I indicate that Kubota "'states" that you must use their branded fluids, no where. They can't as theres a law against it. They can recommend that you do and they can require that whatever fluid you want to use meets their specs and in the case of a Kubota BX23, they spec in their owners manual & WSM, a multi-grade (ISO 46) hydraulic oil. SUDT is, UDT ain't.

That said, theres been far to many posts here and elsewhere on the www that indicate that a dealer recommends & uses only UDT and/or another manufacturers branded oil and thats all he uses. As long as the dealer stands behind it and will honor the warranty should a related failure occur then thats fine by me.
Use whatever fluid you want, theres better and theres worse, I'd recommend to meet the specs of ISO 46 where it's called for, thats all.

Not word games. This is an old issue on this forum. At least since I have been here (winter 2001). I agree on the multi-grade part though..

I try not using anything Kubota fluids or filters when I can. Overpriced. It is not like you BX is going to blow up without Kubota air in the tires! LOL

My BX24 (same hyd unit as the older 22/23)does not say I must use anything. page 81 or 64 (same as user Volfandt ). If the fluids one selects passes UDT spec, you are fine. At least after reading the UDT spec, it is okay for me.

The UDT fluids have been overpriced for years. Also some dealers are clueless on spec etc. I had one almost yelling at me about fuel filters change at XX internal. He was way off too.

Reminds me of one of the members' comments of using "Pixie Dust" and "Unicorn Tears" in the special blend all manufacturers seem to claim from Kubota to Yamaha and so on. Maybe Kubota has special oil wells in Narnia.

You know, back in the day we had a good thread on the air we used in our tires.
I certainly hope you all have changed over to winter air....

Actually I do just the opposite, run winter air in the summer to keep cooler and summer air in the winter to stay warm; works great it does.:laughing::laughing:
