SUDT vs UDT for BX-24 Official Kubota Recommendation

Yes, the orange dye would be great, to check fluid levels. It's a mystery why it is sold in clear. But again, last quote I got on Chevron UTF it was MORE money than the Kubota branded stuff. I'm sure it is a great product.

@TripleR- I'm right with ya. We share a very similar perspective. Used to have a saying, back in the day, Oil is Oil. Within reason, there's lots of truth there.

When we were young we were told the same thing, but being young and better educated and naturally "smarter" than everyone else as the young always are, we "knew" better.

My father in law was a bulk distributor for Simpson, Sinclair then ARCO and he said the same thing, but hey what did he know; heck he was old then; late forties at least.:laughing:

UDT = 20w
SUDT = 10w20
SUDT2 = ? (the jug says it has "synthetic oil performance" but doesn't come right out and say that it's a synthetic oil).

My 2004 BX23 manual indicates I can use UDT or SUDT but in other sections of the same manual it calls for SUDT only.....

All I've run has been SUDT but will be going to SUDT2 on my upcoming 600hr. Local dealer doesn't carry SUDT anymore.....
I've never had a hydraulic performance issue and the HST only whines when going upgrade in high or when I try to take off w/the brake set.

Has ANYONE ( other than bx owners, which are prone to failure) had a hydro trans fail , for mixing UDT and SUDT?,,,,,

What sections state you must use SUDT? I had a 22 and now a 24? I see nohing that states you must.

In the long run any savings really isn't much so I'll stick with SUDT2. Anything equal or better is not easy for me to get. I'm sure most any quality oil meeting the requirements would work just fine. But if it doesn't save money then it needs to be convenient to get or something that can be bought in bulk to be used in multiple pieces of equipment.

I hope my bx25 isn't prone to failure as Jakel said... I do run the sudt2

Have never heard this BX prone to failure "statement" before!:confused::confused: I've owned 5 BXs, one currently and have owned a BX for almost, not the same one, nine years. Never had a problem, except the abrupt stop in reverse on the BX2350, much less failure. Believe someone is totally confused.

Indeed, I searched a few sites and googled both bx hst failure and kubota hst failure and didn't find enough threads specifically on the point of hst failure in bxes to raise a red flag. Now hst cooling fan - that's a different story!

I just ignore statements like that. It's no different than someone making the blanket statement like xxxxxxxx brand 1/2 ton trucks are prone to engine failure. How many BX tractors have Kubota sold? If they are prone to failure don't you think there would be tons of threads here about them breaking?

BX23 owners manual, Page 60, Maintenance of the Tractor, lubricants, Transmission case, Capacities - 2.5L, Lubricants - Kubota Super UDT fluid*.

The asteric points to a note that reads: The oil used to lubricate the trensmission is also used as hydraulic fluid. To ensure proper operation of the hydraulic system and complete lubrication of the transmission it is important that a multi-grade transmission fluid be used in this system. we recommend the use of KUBOTA SUPER UDT fluid for optimum protection and performance. (consult your local KUBOTA Dealer for further detail)

Also just checked in my BX23 WSM.
General section, page G6, Lubricants, Fuel & Coolant, Transmission case - KUBOTA SUPER UDT fluid*

The asteric points to a note that says: KUBOTA original transmission hydraulic fluid.
