SUDT vs UDT for BX-24 Official Kubota Recommendation

If I had as many tractors as TripleR I'd buy it by the tractor trailer load:) but I don't. I've always used SUDT for my Kubota HSTs and guess I always will. Can't see that big of a savings to try another brand and maybe it not function as well as the product I've always used and I don't do it often enough for it to be a large amount of money. I now have a B2320 gear drive and I'll use UDT in it because Gary at Barlows said to.:D

If Kubota fluid SUDT is not specially made for the requirements of the Kubota HST then why do some people switch back to it after using other fluids??? Some accounts refer to the increased whine to not having as much starting power on hills. Please explain why all these accounts are wrong or a figment of the imagination. I do know that when I did the 50 hour service on my L3130 GST and filled with SUDT that the shifting was better and quicker.

I can only relate my own experience with three different Kubota HST units and some geared units. I couldn't tell any difference as long as I used a quality fluid. The first dealer I bought from also sold NH and didn't even carry Kubota fluid.

I have been flamed quite a few times on oil/lubricant threads because I have disagreed with the superiority of one type or brand, dino v synthetic; don't know why people get so excited over these things.

Looks like TripleR and me are on the same TBN schedule. Just wish I had his money!!!

Info I've seen describes it as a 30w...or ISO 46 which equals 20 weight....??
Curious where you saw 10w-30?

I checked the viscosities at 40 and 100 degrees Celsius. The 100 number is pretty close to straight 30. The 40 number is between 10 and 20 but setting the low viscosity on multi-viscosity is at a lower temp than 40C. 40C is the published number though so I extrapolated. Also I talked to chem engineers from Mobil. Their Mobilfluid 424 meets Kubota UDT spec and they said they term it a 10W-30 equivalent.

Oils for hydrotransmissions are for power transfer , rather than lubrication.
I prefer thinner than thicker , so SUDT or JD hygard ( 10w30 ) is my
choice . Mine was delivered with 20wUDT , and quickly changed out
for more suitable viscosity , with noticeable speed increase too.

It better do both well! Plenty of bearings in a typical hydrostat system.

They say it meets their spec, but that doesn't mean it is the same fluid of course. Many here on TBN have run fluids that are claimed to meet kubota spec with very different results...
For the purposes of this discussion I'd still like proof the UDT is or is not a single grade... I have found conflicting info both ways.

I'm a noob so you can take my remarks with a grain of salt. Just doing a little research I find Chevron Texaco synthetic THF with similar specs to Kubota SUDT. The major difference - it's orange. I've read quite a few threads here that have mentioned that it's hard to read the levels of fluid in the sight glass. Some color would obviously help here. Plus it's orange. :)

Let me see, I drive a five year old pickup bought used and you drive...

Actually we are both pretty darned lucky, well except for that ole being older than dirt thing.

To no one in particular:

On the oil/lubricant thing, I come from a family of mechanics, grandfather owned his own garage, uncle was a mechanic and mechanical engineer who bought a new car about every twenty years, brother began as a tractor mechanic then for dealers then owned his own business and drag raced, another brother mechanic and nuclear guy for DOD and restores vintage pickups with his mechanic son who builds 60's/70's Chevy pickup hot rods with his sons...

Over the years we built (OK I mostly watched) performance engines and have torn down more motors than you can even imagine and used just about every oil including synthetics and checked performance and wear on tear downs.

The conclusion we came to was that for normal use, a good lubricant is a good lubricant. We do have several tractors, but three are over 50 years old, one forty, one close to thirty and four newer ones. None of our tractors have had any mechanical issues and that was with some having been used in heavy ground engagement farming.

I can understand people preferring to use SUDT/SUDTII or even those who swear by Amzoil etc., I have just not seen any reason to.

Yes, the orange dye would be great, to check fluid levels. It's a mystery why it is sold in clear. But again, last quote I got on Chevron UTF it was MORE money than the Kubota branded stuff. I'm sure it is a great product.

@TripleR- I'm right with ya. We share a very similar perspective. Used to have a saying, back in the day, Oil is Oil. Within reason, there's lots of truth there.
