hey all - i just picked up a 495 planter. it needs a cylinder, and john deere dealer basically said that they didn't come with one, and that you used the 'one that came with the tractor'.

that being said...anyone have any guesses/starting points? sure would be nice to get this working.

also need some plates for seeds...anyone have any?

Could not tell you what size cyl would imagine a reg 8" stroke would work. On the seed plates take your whole bottom to your seed guy and see if they can provide you with plastic plates. They should be the same as the 71 flex planter. That is assuming that what you want to plant already coincides whith the hopper bottoms that you have now (ex a corn bottom is not the same as a beat bottom). Plastic plates for these are easy to get though expect the oem metal plates to be $50 - $100 a piece. Good luck

Where are you located?
About any farm store would have the cylinders.
Also, sponsor/advertiser Surplus Center will have them.

What are you planning to plant?

Those planter's used a 3x8 in cylinder, very common, TSC has them in stock, usually. As far as plates go, try Lincoln Ag. I bought plates a few years ago, I think they are about $14 per plate. These are plastic, they will last for years and not rust.

There are a few threads on TBN that a search will bring up to add the 3rd SCV, or to add power beyond kit. Lots of good help if you are thinking of doing it yourself.
Contact your Deere dealer for a kit, if one is available. The 3rd spool is already there, just need to get the plumbing and the controls to tie into it.
Will need to remove the right fender and wheel, I believe.
I did this on my 4300 without much of a hassle.
