Sure hate to beat this valve thing to death but I searched for this and couldn't find anything. My question is, how can I stop the detent function on my Speeco splitter control valve? I'm constantly having to pop this valve out of detent. After 200 or 300 cycles......Well you know.

You will have to dismantle the valve and remove the detent spring and ball assy. This might be possible to do without a total dissassembly depending on the valve design.

Another option, can you some how mechanically limit the stroke of the handle to prevent engaging the detent?

If you are meaning that it sticks and still tries to reverse the cylinder even though it is all the way back??? If that is whhat you mean, I think it is adjustable.

I would contact speeco or consult your manual.

If I remember correctly, it is like adjusting a PRV. Just a spring that has a little allen head to tighten or loosen it.

We had the exact opposite problem, it woulndt STAY in detent when the oil was cold. It was better when warm, but still didnt take much to pop it out. Like a fly landing on it would probabally kick it out. We adjusted it and havent had any problems since and that was several years ago.

Mine started sticking too. Blew the rod packing out of the cyl.
Remove cover from detent, there is probably moisture in there causing corrosion. Clean and grease up the spring, balls and detent grooves. Should help for a while.
Better solution, go buy a Price or Brand valve and replace it. That's what I did and my splitter works better that it ever did before.

Thanks Ken, I couldn't find where there was an adjustment. I have read about the two valves you recommended. I'm a little concerned about the proper one to get. I guess they would know if I told them which splitter I had. What kind do you have? smoker
