Mahindra 3016HST
Posted my negotiations on the 3016 on another thread, but thought I'd re-post here since it's a done deal as of this morning. Gave them a small amount down to hold it for me until I'm ready to have it delivered (house is not done yet). The remainder will be paid on the day I want them to deliver.

Negotiations went pretty well: 3016 HST with loader, skid steer quick connect, box blade, and shredder. Got the $800 discount for cash, and a $400 discount for the package deal. Negotiated the higher cost galvanized-dipped implements for the painted price, got them to weld clips on the bucket for free, and got them to throw in a grille guard for free. Total price $16,700. Also added pallet forks for $695.

I know they are making some money on the deal, but I want them to, that's what they are in business for. But on the other hand I don't want them to make a killing, and after doing quite a bit of pricing, I think this is a fair deal for both parties.

I'll post pics from delivery day. Also plan to video the instructions they give me so I can refer to it later if I didn't understand something correctly (this is my first tractor). Here are some pics from last time when I did the test ride (a walk around the tractor). Sorry for posting all the pics....:drink: I'll post some more...

Good looking tractor, but I am confused on 2 points. the first picture appears to be a different tractor? a gear tractor, as it has an accelerator pedal on the right floorboard., all the rest are of a hydrostat tractor. as you said in your post. And I assume the dealer is going to install the Skid Steer Quick Attach before delivery. Congratulations on your new machine.

Good catch, and correct on both points. The first pic was from a previous visit, and is the geared version, I went with the HST. I included the pic because it was a good pic of the whole tractor. And yes, they haven't installed the skid steer yet. They need to prep the tractor before delivery. And thanks, I'm excited about it, looking forward to all the fun! :D

Actually, first two pics are the geared version. I gave it a try, and I think I could have gotten used to it over time, but the HST was just so easy to use, that's what I went with.

Let me know how you like your quick attach mounts? Did they give you a quick attach bucket also?

That's the one option I wanted but did not get. I dont have any need for it either since I have no from bucket attachments.....but **** it's neat!

I wanted a Gear tractor also but I have changed my mind on the hydrostat. It works great for loader work and for mowing. If the grass is tall you can creep along and not bog the tractor.

Yeah, hopefully the skid steer will work great. I got it because I see changing between the bucket and the pallet forks fairly frequently. Otherwise I wouldn't have done it.

Good point on going really slow with the HST vs shift, when I test-rode the shift it was kind of herky-jerky for sure. But I learned to drive on a stick and figured I'd get the hang of it before long. But after riding the HST, it was just so easy and simple, allows 100% focus on everything else going on. So that's what I went with.

In my opinion good choices both the HST and the SSQA. But I am very biased:D. Or is it experience talking:laughing::laughing: Happy tractoring.

Congrats! Bit jealous :) not bad price either in my admittedly less knowledgeable opinion. Making me consider this model as opposed to something bigger and used. Agree on the hst, given the choice. Thx for all the great pix!

Haha, yeah, I told the dealer I tried to educate myself a bit first (like on this forum), but as a result I know enough to be dangerous (this is my first tractor). Still, I think it's true that the best approach is to research as much as you can first, but then asking informed questions at the dealer face-to-face and with the product at hand. Sure beats the old days of having very little info at your fingertips, in which case I would have walked into the dealer and said, "so tell me about tractors".

An interesting example would be the issue of filling tires. Read about it here and I asked the dealer about it. He raised his eyebrow a bit, somewhat intrigued that a newbie knew of this issue, and then basically said that they used to do it with every tractor they sold in the past, but they don't due it as a rule now given liability issues. But he said he would do it if I wanted, not extra cost. I asked him what his opinion is on it, and he said if he were to buy a tractor he would definitely do it. So there you go, inform yourself first, and you can have a very productive discussion with the dealer.

Or just wing it, what the heck do I know?.....:confused2:

That's been one of my debates now.....to fill the tires or not.

It's more weight to haul on the trailer....but it might make it more stable on hills.

I've not decided yet...let me know if you like it.

Nice to see someone else buying the Modern Ag equipment, You'll love the Modern Ag Compeditorr Cutter. I bought the 6' Modern cutter but got the hot dipped galvanized one. Modern makes one heavy cutter. I just couldn't get the Super Sunshine model, but wanted it none the less.:thumbsup:

Yeah, I decided to go with the filled tires. The dealer says he uses a portion of anti-freeze and the rest is water. The biggest thing he said to be careful of is if adding air, make sure the valves are at the 12:00 position. Said one person let the water out of one of the tires which created an unbalanced situation, and then rolled the tractor when on an incline. Which is why they don't do it as standard practice any longer.

Btw, dealer said they would fill tires at no cost. Part of the overall package deal, I guess.

Wow. You have to work at it to let all the fluid out of one! Especially if you don't take the core out of the stem!

The only problem with having the tires filled from the start is that you have no way of knowing just how much better the tractor performs with the filled tires. When I first bought my 3215, I new that the tractor was going to get transported quite a bit more than any of the others, so I had hoped that I was going to be able to not fill the tires so as to save on weight for transport reasons. Well, IMO the tractor did not perform up to it's capabilities, maybe 60% at best. So I filled all 4 tires and the tractor now works admirably.

The tire filling applies to larger tractors just as much as it does for smaller machines and of course it makes a difference on what all of ones circumstances are. But IMO, a large part of the time a person is waaaaaaay better off having their tires filled.

Just my :2cents:

I never ran my 3016 Hst without loaded tires as I loaded them the night I got it. But even with the rear tires loaded the loader will pick back tires off the ground if you try to overdo it. Think it would be a safety concern if you plan on working tractor to its capabilities if you didn't have them loaded. JMO
