Broke my friggin arm (got what I deserved)

My dad broke his elbow when he was a kid. After it healed his arm was bent and he could not straighten it. The doctor gave him a cure... he made him carry a bucket of bricks around the block twice a day until it straightened out. :mur: He said it took several months, but worked great.

However, thinking back on it, it must have not really straightened out completely because what brought up the conversation in the first place was me asking "Hey dad! How come your arm bends funny?"

Figure I just dislocated it so I keep working.

Late to the party, but...Dude! We gotta talk. I think my daddy covered this better than your daddy did. According to my daddy, "Just dislocated" is right next to "Just dismembered" in the dictionary. He had experience with broken bones and dislocations. He kinda disregarded simple broken bones, but he got pale at the mention of dislocations.

Broken bones are relatively simple. Snap a 2x4 or an I-beam in mid-span, and a carpenter or welder or surgeon can fix it. It's easy if it doesn't involve a joint.

Joints are freakin' complicated. Blow one of them apart, and it's time to call in the expensive surgeons and Rin-Tin-Tin.

The dog will clear a path for your cane or crutches after the surgeons fail. Joints don't heal worth a dang.

So anyway, be joyful that it's just a broken bone. Devote every second of the next few months to healing. If you don't, you will have the rest of your life to regret it.

Just call me Mr. Sunshine.

I guess after several months he just got tired carrying the bricks around the block twice a day. I don't blame him.

He said it built character!

To me when I was a little kid, my dad was a giant. 6'3 225 WWII vet. And he was a character! I miss him.

Other than the height and the weight every thing else in your post matches a post that I could have made about my Dad. My Father-in-law was also a WW11 vet, he passed away last year. They are leaving pretty fast according to a news report that I heard a couple months ago. My wife received a certificate of gratitude suitable for framing about 2 weeks ago that Obama had signed thinking him for his service. Obama spoke at the retirement ceremony for one of my nephews that retired about a year ago and presented him with a certificate of gratitude for his service to his country, my brother went to the ceremony and said that it was so special that it brought tears to his eyes and made him proud to be an American. There was several others that were retiring at the same time so it wasn't for my nephew alone.

I got the same break a year ago by falling into an empty pool (luckily the shallow end). When asked to fill out a form at the ER I realized I couldn't work a pen. Work that range of motion hard and good luck!

Oh I feel your pain ! My avatar is what is left of my left elbow. I shattered the radius and needed a prosthetic one and the ulna needed 2 plates and 13 screws to hold back together. It is very painfull and has atrophied alot .To this day I can only manage to lift a gallon of milk without alot of pain.

Wishing you a full and speedy recovery.
