Way off topic for PT land, but was putting up plywood in my pole barn to make some storage last saturday. Got the 1st sheet jammed on the ladder at the top, so I set the ladder against the 2x4 joist and went up again with a second sheet, knowing full well it was a stupid manuever. Got the sheet up, looked in time to see the 1st leg slip off the beam. Panicked, tried to scramble down and only made it worse.

Now it gets fun. Figure I just dislocated it so I keep working. 5PM arm is really sore. got to the ER. Eyup, Fracture of my elbow (Radial fracture of the radius at the elbow). Get a cast and a sling. On monday, Surgeon says hey, cast is a bad idea and so is a sling so just don't pull or push on it for the next 20 days and try and use it lightly or it will atrophy and you will not get full use.

Man, does that hurt. Finally starting to calm down a bit but now my arm is all bruised up.

I got the same break by spending too much time on a 10' step ladder. When it was time to come down, I forgot which side the steps were on. Crashed on concrete. No cast: if it hurts, stop doing what you are doing. The no cast feature helps maintain muscle integrity and condition. Otherwise, shrinkage can occur which you will never get back 100%. Still hurts once in a while when performing lifting and twisting chores. Climbing up on the tractor and grabbing the steering wheel can get your attention if the motor is running and the steering wheel moves.

Very sorry to hear you're laid-up for the next couple of weeks.

Were you at the WA property?

If so, I know it will be hard to let the healing process take it's time because July/August is prime time for outdoor projects...

Ouch! That's too bad, but you escaped with all limbs intact and able to mend, so I'd say that you were spared. Something to be thankful for. Hope the recovery is speedy!

Sincerely,

Rob :)

Speedy recovery!

I've never been comfortable on a ladder.

Speaking of ladder accidents, several years ago my mother in law was putting up Christmas lights. She thought she was on the last step, but was on the 2nd to last step. She stepped off, dropped that extra 12 inches into soft dirt and snapped the ball right off of her femur! She had to get a partial hip replacement. Ladders are dangerous. Lets ban them.

Muscle atropy? My shoulder rotator cuff was torn and popped out..The pain was intense and like a knife was in it. My muscles forgot what to do while i repaired...I had to be pulled and coaxed by a pro , to get it back in shape.
