Tractor
All makes
Hi guys, just thought I'd pass this one on. Lots of old tractors are siezed after standing for years. Tried this after an old fella offered his advice. Fill the pots with coke-a-cola, Leave for a week or so and try again! It definitely works.

Less old iron about now, She Who Must Be Obeyed has ordered a clearout!!!!

It is a well known fact that the acid in a can of coke will eat/desolve rust.

So, which is better for your rings and cylinders, Coke, or WD-40 (phosphoric acid, or oil of wintergreen)?

I've never used Coca Cola for that, but when I was a police officer working at night, it was the best thing I ever found for removing the film on the windshield in rainy weather. I'd just pour it across the top of the windshield with the wipers going. If it was raining enough to wash it on off the car, that was all I did. If not, then spray it with a water hose to rinse is off. And of course, I've also done that to my personal car when I had to drive at night in wet weather.

Coke cancels battery acid too, just in case you have one to blow up. It can stop acid from eating your clothes and shoes..

But how does Coke tell a rusty piston from a set of teeth

The mention of Coke on the windhshield reminds me....read a few years back where frequent users of automatic carwashes were complaining of hazy windshields....turns out that some of the car was chemicals had hydrofluoric acid in it to improve cleaning....but that also etches glass!

That's something I never heard before.

It's not just Coke that will do wonders.

In my college days I worked the organic chemistry stockroom. When a student would bring us a set of fused lab glassware we had a series of steps to take to get it apart. The second to last straw was to boil is in concentrated Sodium Hydroxide. If that didn't work we'd invite the student to bring us a can of sprite from the vending machine down the hall. Usually after a soak overnight in the sprite, the glassware would come apart with only a little coaxing.

I would only use coke or phosphoric acid as the LAST resort. I mean last as in you have already saved the money for a rebuild.

First mix 50:50 ATF and diesel. Put 3 table spoons in each cylinder every day. Try to hand turn the engine with a socket and long breaker bar. After a couple weeks of that, Try towing it in 4th (clutch down) and slowly feeding in the clutch. That may get it to turn over. Obviously, do it with the plugs or injectors out! And don't try to "pop" the clutch or you may upset the tractor and wipe out. That would be bad.

After that failing, try making a shelter around the engine and directing heat lamps at the engine. Or if you are down south in the summer, just outside in the sun! Heat will expand the metal and make it easier to separate.

As a prior poster said, leave the coke for mixing with rum!

Hydrofloric acid, did I see that on the label of those wet handywipes in a bucket. I believe they had a glass warning on them?? AnyBody?

I think my last rum & coke was nearly 50 years ago. But I do have a jug of rum and occasionally enjoy pina colada.

I keep a jug of the lower priced Appletons around and have a couple of shots before bed, one for each of my livers.
