Goat fence for Kudzu Control

We have Boers and Nubians and use a 2x4" woven wire. We have some field fence and it always attract certain individual goats to get their heads stuck. We solve this with a short piece of pvc and some duct tape and stick it across their horns). The other solution is to sell the repeat offenders.

Thanks for the encouragement. The 25 acres is a Kudzu patch within our 160 acre pine tree farm. Within the Kudzu patch there is a large variety of forage including Burmuda grass. Water is provided via Ritchie livestock water fountain that is split between fence-line for goats on one side horses on the other. The water is artesian spring water our whole family drinks the same water straight from the ground. There is 12x20 foot leantoo shelter. Currently I have 8 goats 2 bucks 6 does. The purpose of the goats is to reclaim/eliminate Kudzu in-order to plant over with 13,000 pine trees by 2014. This will add 25 acres in new pine to our existing 40 acres in 20yr old stand set in 10 year CRP, and 50 acres of pines planned for planting this year.

25 acres in ~3 years with 8 goats sounds ambitious. Better hope those 6 does start kidding!

What kind of hay do you feed your goats? Ours are picky eaters!

I am coming kind of late to the thread. By now I wonder if you figured out that 2 bucks is one too many. I think one buck to 10 does is probably about right.

I keep 5 pygmy does to keep the poison ivy down in the back. They love poison ivy and it does not hurt them.

Of course with 5 goats on 2 acres, we have no poison ivy, or anything else. Texas is in the middle of a bad drought, so I am springing a round bale about once a month.

I had a buck once, for a couple of months. Ended up giving him away because he was so smelly and kind of a nuisance. If I decide I want a mess of kids, I'll get a buck for about 60 days then find him a good home.

I think your biggest worry is going to be coyotes. Here in SC they are making a sizable dent in the deer herd, and not just taking helpless fawns but also killing adult deer!

I think your biggest worry is going to be coyotes. Here in SC they are making a sizable dent in the deer herd, and not just taking helpless fawns but also killing adult deer!

So far so good I've had my goats for 4 weeks and no sign of trouble. Two Gelded donkeys seem to be working.
