Any source for John Deere MX6 cutter parts?

No, that's why I'm here! I have parts diagrams of MX6 cutters with *3* different gear boxes and 3 different shafts. I spent a good part of an afternoon calling my tractor sources, and the shaft is obsolete...JD's only fix is to replace the box & pan...evidently JD had problems early on with these, and the supply of parts were exhausted and the design updated, so I'm basically SOL. Heck, if I could even find a used box that would bolt in I'd give it a shot.

Don't all MX mowers have slip clutches? My MX-8 does.
Guess I better make sure mines not froze-up. :ashamed:

Just a thought. Take it to a machine shop. I'm a machinist, and that is an easy fix.

I tried what has been known as the best machine shop in the area, and before they even saw it they said "no"...and apparently no one else in the country will touch it either.

My cutter does indeed have a slip clutch.

Looks like it might be frozen...

No machine shop is willing to touch the shaft...2 said they would, until I showed it to them and they asked what it was for, then they told me they didn't want to be associated with it.

So, to fit a "generic" gear box to this thing, where would I start? Any chance of finding one with an output spline that will match the JD pan (stumpjumper) I already have? I'm thinking (hoping!) the input spline should be an easy match...can anyone offer any help?

This thread has been dormant for a little while, but what ever came of the broken shaft problem? I broke the same dang part on my mx6 after pulling up a rock while I was mowing a field yesterday. The local John Deere parts place tells me that they can order the parts, but they are going to be almost $600 for everything. The shaft alone is $440 because they force you to buy it as a unit with the mating gear. I gave them they serial number and they swear that they can get it. We'll see.

I suspect that is as good as it gets. there was a period of time the parts were not available. Look forward to seeing how this works out for you.
