Any source for John Deere MX6 cutter parts?

Ya, I cann't believe some of the things that my mx6 has found and decided that it was going to chew up. branches, chunks of firewood, a steel post and various other goodies that I had to back over because I was afraid of driving it over. When it broke it wasn't violent at all. the pan fell on the grass and it got real quiet real quick. it didn't even whack the sides of the deck. I'm not sure that the gear box is destined to break because I have abused it for 7 years. Ya have to figure that something is going to break after that.

I've looked at the newly designed gear box and there is a shoulder not a groove in the shaft to accept the snap ring, which is where mine broke.

Kind of wish I hadn't read this post . Been bush hogging 30 acres of over growth of brush vines and saw briars. 2" gum sprouts and cedar trees. most brush is about 8' tall. Now beginning to wonder if my MX6 is designed for mowing a golf course.
But will keep looking for the answer if it can be repaired.

My MX6 rotory cutter broke its shaft today
Revisiting this post and again asking if there is a replacement for the China Gear box Mine has the # of 9.238.802.00 AW 34340
Been real careful not to hit rocks or stumps and keep set to 6" high to mostly top weeds and tall grass.
Today decided to mow the road right of way and had cut 2 1/2 mile runs and on the 3rd. with out noise the stump jumper fell of with about 1 inch of the shaft with smooth break.
Has any one been able to locate a parts or replacement gear box.? Going to talk with John Deere Parts tomorrow to see what is available.
My at least 15 year old Howse mower from YAZOO Miss. is still cutting like a new one except the sheet metal is worn rewelded and reinforced to point it looks bad.

So Ken yours had the Chinese gearbox? If so that is the first MX 6 with the Chinese made gearbox that I've heard of that broke the shaft. JD put a 5 year warrenty on the newer Chineese made gearbox. You might want to check that out with your dealer.

Just found out that it is possible under warrenty will be talking to dealer tomorrow.

Well good news and bad news. Good news yes there is a 5 year warrenty. bad news warrenty starts on new MX6 and after Nov. 2010 mine in 2008.

New shaft cost 775.00 + seals and any parts needed so adverage around 1200.00
A new box with 90 day warrenty costs 1400 + labor.
Does any one have suggestions on what to do with this.
Maybe run my worn out Howse more a bit longer this year.

JMHO, I would get 1 or 2 or 3 of these blowed up MX 6"s on a wagon or trailer and park out in front of the JD dealer. Put a sign on the side of the trailer stating what you think about the MX 6 and the bad gearboxes situation. I would do this every day I could until they recalled those machines. Ken Sweet

I'm with Sweet. I saw one of these broken MX6s on my local CraigsList for sale for $300 and thought, 'wow, what a deal' till I looked at what it cost to fix these flawed pieces of crud. I simply can't understand why JD won't admit they have a problem with these and stand behind them.

I think yours will have the Spanish made gearbox instead of the Chinese one if yours was sold in 2008. You can look on the gearbox and it will say.

I've not heard of any solution to replaceing the Spanish made gearboxes that make any sense economicaly. You could put in on C-list for a couple of hundred bucks and sell "as is". Some Deerehead might want to tackle it for that. I mowed with mine for two hours yesterday. It does ok but being scared of hitting stuff kinda takes the "fun" out of mowing.

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, MY MX6 IS A 2006 MODEL, GEAR BOX MADE IN SPAIN, ONLY 80 HOURS ON THE CUTTER!
THE SHAFT BROKE TWO WEEKS AGO WHILE I WAS CUTTING 8" TALL FESCUE GRASS.
NOW JD WANTS ~$2K TO REPLACE THE GEAR BOX AND STUMP JUMPER!
