This is what the filter looks like, can't be to hard to find, should be on right side as you are setting in the seat not far behind the pump. Yanmar Tractor Parts: HYDRAULIC FILTER - SPIN ON - S If you are talking about the screen it looks something like this and should be low down on the transmission, may be behind the suction line going to the pump. Yanmar Tractor Parts: HYD SCREEN_

Thanks, that helps a lot. So since the screen is down low, i think I know where that may be at. I was thinking it looked a little different from that. I attached a picture of the general area I think it may be. I think it is near the yellow drain plug so my next question is if I take the screen off I am going to have to drain the tranny? I have not serviced the tractor since I got it so this may be a good time to do so? I am really thankful to have you guys on the forum, Thank You all for all the help! :)

Jake, when you pull the yellow plug, you had better have a LARGE container to catch all the hyd fluid, its like 4 gals + or - :D
Drain it (before) removing the screen.

Okay, Thanks Ernie! Sounds like i need to get some hydraulic fluid, i only have 1 gallon right now. :ashamed::laughing: Would doing a full out service be a good idea if I drain the tranny?

Yes, do the full service, drain the fluid, change the hyd filter, and clean the suction screen.

For cleaning the screen, is there a certain technique to it? Or use a rag or??? What has me a bit confused is why did it stop so abruptly? I would think it would be a little more in the way where it gradually would loose pressure but I guess not. :confused2: Again, Thanks for all the help guys! :)

Jake, clean it a can of gasoline with a brush, then blow it off with a compressor.
Just re install it , put the plug back in, add oil, and your ready to go.

I have been down this road with several different makes of tractors. You're on the right track. The first thing to do is always check the fluid level and filter/screen to make sure they are able to pass fluid to the pump. Have you checked the linkage to make sure that something hasn't come loose or fallen out ( a pin, bolt or nut) and the valve is only being opened slightly? I have twice had 3PH problems that were linkage related. Do your hydraulic service but if that doesn't fix the problem the linkage is probably the next easiest thing to check that may cause this type of problem.

I checked out my linkage and it still goes up/down but wont lift over 150 pounds.

I just ordered all the stuff needed to service my tractor from Hoye. i also went ahead and got all the manuals for my 169D and a gasket for the oil pan as the current one leaks a little. I also got a head light bulb so I will have 2 head lights instead of one now. Thanks Hoye! Now I just need some hydraulic fluid and some engine oil. Any suggestions for oil? I also should get some gear oil for the front axle as it is low, any suggestions for that? Thanks a bunch guys!

Fluid & Oil Types I personally use rotella 10w40 but am not saying that is the way to go. Different strokes for different folks. Just make sure it is an oil rated for diesels.

Ditto on Rotella and available at Wally World or local farm supply for about the same price.

I got oil today. Picked up a gallon of engine oil, 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid, and some 90w gear oil. In the end it was $85. This tractor sure is spendy to service.:p Ah well, it's just part of maintaining an older tractor. ;):)

It takes 5 qts to the full mark, at least my 2000 does. And no thats not expensive think of those who have 12 gallon sumps for hydrofluid. Think of my loggers whos loaders hold 60 gallons and when a hose blows it looses 5 gallons, or a cutter head that blows one or some other hose on a cutdown machine that loose 15 gallons!

Or an engine that takes 10gallons of oil. Our tractors are about as cheap as you can get, one of the reasons i wanted a small tractor.

You are right. I do have a bit of extra oil from my other tractor that I sold so I should be fine. Last night i felt like working on my tractor so I did what I could to get it in better shape. So first off, I decided that since my front axle has been low on gear oil for quite a while it was time to top it off. Got is exactly full, at first I thought i had over filled it but I just hadn't cleaned the dip stick well enough. Then I took a rag and shined up the hood and to finish it off I greased it. I am very excited to change the oil and fix the hydraulics! :D:cool:

Looks like my parts are delayed due to bad weather. At-least I will have them by tomorrow. Oh well, i guess I can start splitting some firewood since I need my Yanmar to pull the splitter through the mud.
