I need to fill the front axle after replacing a leaky seal and it calls for 90 wt. All I can find is 80W/90. Are these one and the same?

The only difference is that the 80w90 has a cleaning agent in it. The only applications that it is not good for is the old graphite bearings, it will wash the graphite out.
Hope this helps.

It isn't the same as straight 90. Just like 10w30 isn't the same as straight 30. That being said,it will work

Don't know about your tractor. My 3110D takes about 8 + qts bone dry

Yes use the 80-90w, 75-90w, 90w, whatever its fine.

As for the amount no clue on the amount sorry mine has the same ft axle as kenmac and they hold quite a bit like he said but we have dipsticks on ours attached to the fill plug so I presume you might also if so Id probably have 4-5 qts on hand? hth

btw it will only be about half full total volume not clear to the top if it doesn't have a stick which I know you know that but just saying to be talking out loud I guess. :)

Excellent info...this forum is just great.

I ordered a dip stick to replace just the axle plug that sits on top....so that will be my guide. It would be nice to know the actual capacity to make sure the dip stick measures correctly

I should have enough to get me going but I tried to find just 90W and its just not to be found around here.....I went to Tractor Supply, Fleet Pride, John Deere, Pep Boys and two other mom and pop auto parts stores before I posted...

Thanks again

Most oil now is multi grade. I'm able to get straight 30 oil. For how long ??. You need order a manual. It will tell you how much

You can mix them too its not going to hurt a thing the gears and bearings wont know the difference! :D

Call Hoye they know everything about these Yanmars.

Comment - it takes hours, days, for the oil to settle into all the tight spots. Recheck the level for a couple of days afterward until it stabilizes.

I suggest buy a plunger/dispenser which will be handy for topping up small quantities - even if you have a straight shot for a funnel.

This is the same oil used in Yanmar rototillers too.

I use a quart plastic oil bottle or maybe even these gear oil bottles may work and a dish soap bottle lid that way you can close it up. Good comment though reminded me of this little helper tidbit hth.

Some Gear oil Qt bottles if you dont cut them off to low on that point have a cap that snaps back on, so you can save it.

80-90wt is the same principle as 10w-30.

It is 80 wt when its cold, like just going out to it in the mourning today. And it acts like 90 wt ofter you have been in 4wd running the loader etc for an hour, when its good n warm.

So I took apart my 4 wheel drive housing and while I was cleaning out the old oil... this metal o ring fell out. Anybody know what it is and more importantly where it goes?

Is it like a spring of soft coiled metal, very flexible? If so my guess would be it fell out of a seal, somewhere. Seals will usually have those metal coils in them for pressure.

Yes its like metal wraped around something and its very flexible. I bet it popped out of the knuckle seal...which I am replacing anyway. I could not find it on the hoye schematic so I was a scratching my head....not the first time I had extra parts after disassembling something LOL
