Chris, another cool trick for you is it is very easy to rig your truck to run the fog lights and high beams at the same time.

The fog relay is grounded thru the high beam light on the IP. When the high beams are on, the IP light breaks ground on the fog light relay circuit. On mine, I found the wire under the dash, by the fuse box, soldered a ring terminal on and grounded it to chassis. Most (mine is a 2007) use a black wire with green stripe.

Now, on deserted roads I can put out a lot of light. The existing wiring is separate and is never overloaded because of the use of relays.

Thanks. All 3 of my trucks, Nissan and Fords, will not let you do both at the same time. Never thought about it but it would be nice to have both if needed.

I believe I read on a Ford Forum that the 6.0 had a very similar feature.

Nothing really to hot wire. The wire is there, just not hooked up unless needed. I simply hooked it to the up-fitter switches Ford has. You know, the little features Ford comes out with and leads the pack such as Factory Brake Controllers, Up-fitter Switches, Man Steps.

The others will catch up someday and have it also...

Chris

Ok,OK... please inform the un-informed.... (me) .. what is the Ford "Man Step"?
Apparently I have missed out on that feature...

I wanted to do this to my 08 Dodge 3500, but was told it was ilegal in Tx to run fog lights with high beams on, not sure its 100% true, has anyone heard such a thing??

My guess is it is such all the manufactures have them disabled when the Highs are on.

That being said if you only use them off road and in limited vis situations and be aware of the law so to not effect others what will it hurt.

I need one on my Dodge, it a 4x4 dually, not all that fun getting in the back of the truck sometimes. I like the one Fords have on theirs, people can make fun of them all they want, I am 46 now, and not the same shape i was years ago.

Guess I can do that, just need a seperate switch for it so I wont use them on the highway. Think I will read up on how it was done.

Ah great, tell me (please) why would one need to have the FOG lights on and the high beams? They are counter productive in there basic use.

Sorry, just a peeve of mine: both sets of lights on so I get completely blinded.

Wouldnt use them for highway use, at least I wouldnt, when out in a field or in the woods at night would be good, sometimes I need all the light i can get. I can see someone not really thinking and blinding everyone on the highway, that would be stupid and could cause an accident.

The point is not to use them on the highway but on seldom traveled roads. Some of the hunting and fishing spots I go to are on deserted county roads and even 1 mile on a trail thru a field.

Actually, they compliment each other very well. The fogs light up just in front of the truck and to the sides. The high beams light up much further out.

Laugh all you want, about the "Man Step" but this fat 56 year old, Silverado owner, would not mind the "Man Step" at all. My 4WD Silverado is pretty high.

Ive got a Dodge 4x4... yes its tall, but I knew it when I bought it. I have my receiver hitch in, I step there, then to the bumper, then into the bed.. To me, the added weight of the tailgate to add a built in step is kinda counter productive. It may be easier to pick your leg up less, but then you throw your back out closing the tailgate.

This is my man step, notice the grab handle on the rack above. Makes it very easy to get in and out sometimes several times a day. Makes 3 steps to get into bed, step-bumper-bed.

Have broken a few over the years backing into things, but well worth it.

JB.

You can close a Ford tailgate with 1 finger. Its got a torsion spring in it, at least the ones I have had in recent years, but none with a man step. That is one feature I really like. My Titan is set up the same way but a little heavier than the Ford but easy to do. Yesterday we took my 6 year old daughter to get a new bike and as I was unloading it she closed it fine. That truck has a mild 2" lift so its kind of tall and she still had not problems.

I usually have a arm full of stuff and can close it like its noting compared to the others I have owned from Dodge and GM.

The little things like the man step and the way the tail gate operates on the fords and the titans are very nice options, Dodge should of started years ago putting them on their trucks, it would help their sales some. And make it easer on me. I put a cylinder on my tail gate so it wont drop when the kids open it, that helps alot.
