I just had to open up this thread. Reason being it seems to me that the Deere 2000 series is a huge success. More threads about priceing and specs with this series than all the others combined.

I have looked at these tractors and am intrigued like all the others. But, they are a lot of money when compared to my budget. Great value, don't get me wrong.

Is it because it is a residential tractor.??

What other Deere tractors have been as popular in years past.??

I think it's sort of there are more people with 5 acres or less, than 10, then 25, then 50, then 100, etc. So there are more sales to fit the needs of 5 arces or less over all.

I just read a piece not long ago about how whites are leaving the suburbs for rural America. They are moving to places 5-30 acres in size. The small compact tractor market is targeting them and the 1 series is further evidence of this move.

Not much. Many of them have made their money and have moved here to small towns where they build a house in the woods and keep to themselves. Some of them probably post here.

Others have purchased property on the coast where high property taxes have pushed out the natives.

My GF comes from a southern coastal town. In the winter it is a ghost town, which is great. From mid April through about Thanksgiving you can't even navigate through town. Thousands of summer homes ($$$$$$$) that are vacant for months on end. It literally makes me sick to see what has happened to our coast. The generations of Fishermen are struggling.

And don't get me started on wind power. That industry is here and they are trying their hardest to devastate our mountain tops. I don't think those folks are natives.??

there's a road called white pass in wash state. used to be a beautiful, scenic...gorgeous drive. now there are thousands of wind turbines.....a real eyesore. and what pisses me off more than the unit themselves. there always STOPPED. they are never turning. Maybe one day ill return there and actually see them turning and chopping the eagles to pieces (well...not really that part).

I know we need the non oil and non nuclear power generators, but there sure ugly. The utilities say that there isnt the infer-structure (IE: the grid) available to actually transport the power yet. hmmm, maybe that should have gone in first??

You are correct....wind power is NOT efficient.

And, I have an read an article report from an ornithologist that says wind mills are a threat to migrating flocks of birds. They find dead birds at the base of these towers that are soo huge, only sky scrapers compare.

Another thought on wind mills...Back in the day nearly every farm had a wind mill. Why have they gone to the wayside.?? Because there is more efficient power sources.

Here in Maine you would not believe the wind projects that are proposed. Miles and miles of leveled mountain tops leveld to install the windmills.:confused2:

The only money to be made in wind power is government subsidies. If and when they dry up, there goes wind power (as a system for marketable power generation). I think a wind turbine is great for supplementing energy on a farm, but that's one wind mill.

One thing you can do (since you wrote you don't want wind farms on your mountains) is push your lawmakers to require a removal bond (in other words, independent financing of removal and restoration of the land). That would put the burden on the companies cashing in on those government subsidies.

That's another thing that bugs me about wind power.....It is touted as green energy.

Wind power is anything but green energy. Total devastation to the landscape that I love soo dearly. I'm a mountain man.

They make the fiberglass housings for the turbines here.

Nothing like the smell of fiberglass resin in the morning.

We have quite a few wind turbines in central Oregon, but I haven't seen any here west of the cascades, yet. people here seem to like solar power, which doesn't make to much sense since the sun is out for maybe 1/3rd of the year at the most. For the most popular Deeres, i would have to say the 2305 was pretty good, as well as the 4310, i have seen quite a few of them. For a great seller, the 790, now 3005. There are a lot of 790 owners out there, especially here since we have nurseries everywhere which have 1 of 3 tractors, the JD 790, the NH TC30, and the K B2350. My nearest NH dealers sells a ton of TC30s from their dealership. One nursery traded in some 8 TC30s at Deere and replaced them with 790s. :thumbsup: I also think Deere did pretty well with the 3x20 series, especially the 3320 and 3520. There are a lot of TBN members who have a 3320 or 3520. Even around here, there are a lot of people who have 3x20 Deere tractors on their property.

Probably not but that would be cool. :thumbsup: Big green turrbines with a JD logo on the side of the turbine. But they sure wouldnt fit in on the top of a mountain. maybe next to a barn full of JDs. :laughing::thumbsup:
