Bx-23
Hey everybody I got a call from a friend that told me about this bx with 250hrs. I went and took a look at it and from the looks it needs a front seal and hst fan. The bucket is a complete mess the hood is cracked the seat is torn the front bumper is pushed back. The guy is asking $6,500. I did not drive it but was told that everything drives fine. I would drive it before I bought it. I did not talk to the guy yet and I'm sure he did not know the fan was destroyed. Does anybody know how long it takes to destroy a trans without the fan? I guess a few of my question is does anybody think it's an ok investment. I have a bx23 and would only fix this up and sell it. What would be a good price to sell a 24 that was left outside for it's whole life?

Any welding shop can straiten the bucket up. The rest you can fix easily. My main concern would be if the tranny got hot due to the busted fan? At a min I would change all the fluids.

Smell the oil in the trans to see if it is burned.

What you get out of it will depend on what you put into it for parts and labor. You're bound to find more problems as you start tearing it apart. Somewhere, especially to resell, you've got to make decisions what to fix and what to leave as is.

A good 24 with those hours would worth what $10k at least?

Wonder if he knows more wrong than he's disclosed?

Figure cutting edge new fan an time to install fluids filters and with luck quick flip coming into season

Did not even think of that thanks

Why is it for sale at a firehouse/rescue building?

The guy that is selling it is a volunteer there

Just wondering what in the crap he was doing to bend bucket ?? If that much damage with only 250 hrs and not sure how long fan blades have been missing....I would be cautious and agree smell hyd oil ..
Just wondering what model year is tractor ? If 6 or 8 yrs old not many hours for amount of items needing repair. If tractor is only a year or 2 old ,,someone was really rough on using the fel..stated front bumper bent back.

Almost $22 for JD2305 HST fan ,,,about $300-500 to have installed...or about 6hrs to do it yourself.

250 hrs? with that much damage to buckets? WOW!

If I were you:
1. check the hydro oil like others said.
2. take a hydraulic reading from one of FEL ports. make sure its not over 2800-2900 psi. I bet its running a mite over 2900 which is how he MIGHT bent bucket.
3. check engine oil , smell it too. check the hours yourself with key off, engine off. test drive it and stuff. shut it off and turn key back on and check hours again. It should gain an hr if you used it with WOT for a while.
4. run engine and note the idle speed and bump it up to 2800. did it smooth out at 2800? does idle sound ok at 850-900?
5.Go ahead and run FEL,BH and note any fluid streaks. if any streaking from fluid, you are in for a seal repacking job too.
6. The fan part is cheap, but do you have the time to take it apart for 2 days if you are not familar with BX or 4 hrs if you are good with tools?
7. If you do want to replace the hood, check with the local dealer and see if he can let you test fit a BX25 hood. Its metal from what I understand.

when you say "front seal" is that engine or axle or what?,like wise I would make sure the clock is working and check all the fluids not only to see if full, but maybe smell of burnt oils it appears to me that it has been "worked hard and put away wet" to say the least

Assuming it runs / drives / operates, I'd buy that in a heartbeat for 6500.

That doesn't sound like a bad price to me, assuming the HST isn't burned up. My BX has been used and abused a little bit, and at times I feel bad about how it looks, but its pretty clean compared to that one. It looks like the FEL was used really hard, I'd check that over pretty good also.

That what a low hour BX looks like after it has been used by multiple operators that do not have to foot the bill for repair. How do I know this you ask we have one at a plant that I go to that has less hours on it and looks worse. The inexperienced guy gets on it and thinks it will do what a large machine will do and this is the result. Looks like it anyway.

   At first glance, your topic seemed to read, "Cheap Advice Needed." I got a good laugh; the advice here is always cheap, but also valuable.

Etcallhome I think you and dex3361 are on the same page that's how someone operates a machine when they don't have a dime in it.

Radioman thanks for the advice I have a friend at the local dealer I think I'm going to have him come out and look at with me. It's funny that you dont think of these things when you are in the hot seat. Fixing the fan docent bother me I can take the time and I have more tools then I need ( that's what the wife says).

Dodge man I agree. There are some spots on my 23 that are missing paint and I keep telling my self I have to fix that before anybody sees but after seeing this it looks brand new.
