Hello. Brand new to the forum - just received my new X500. Seems like a great tractor - huge improvement over my CC 2166.

I was going to purchase a snow removal attachment and wasnt sure which would be best. I live in Maryland, so we dont get too much snow, but definitely enough to have a system in place ready to go. I have a long driveway and a large parking area, so speed is optimum.

The blower attachments seem much more pricey then the blades, but was wondering what everyone thought. Worth the difference? If so, which ones do you recommend? The JD 47" from the local JD dealer I think is 2500. Seems a little steep. Are there others that are compatible?

Thank you for any info!!

I have never been a dan of blades, especially if you have to push it a good amount of distance. I have the 47 on my 455 and it has been bullet proof. The blower is nice because it gets the white stuff out of the way..... With the blade you are limited to how far and high you can push it...

We get around 3-4 ft, mostly in small amounts so I purchased a used 7' 4 way blade and I am very glad I did. Clean up is very fast but you have to start the year by pushing the snow out of the way to allow room for future snow. If I did small driveways a snow blower certainly can put the snow out of the way leaving a very neat job as well. Although small snow amount clean ups, the balde is faster!

duhh blade on front.... then later you'll NEED a blower (how to justify both ) .You say you dont get much snow,so a front blade is quick and cheap. Then watch auctions etc for a bargain on a blower for the back and you'll have a perfect snow machine .

Go to the website for Bercomac snow blowers. They are Canadian built but with a good support system in the USA. They are the top of the line and not any more expensive than JD. I just got a new X500 and that is going on mine after last winter in CT.

Snowblower, no question. I get plenty of snow here. No banks, no raking chucks of sod in spring, doesn't matter if you get 3" or 3' you can move it. If you get a blade just make sure dealer throws in a rake.:D

If you don't get much snow, and the snow does not stay too long, then a blade works great and is much faster. Angle the blade, makes a few passes up and down the driveway and your done.

Snow blowers work best for deeper snow, if you get drifts or if the snow stays around long enough where you can not pile or push the snow away.

I have both and will always use the blade over the blower. Did not even use my 60" blower last year. However, the year before, I had 4-5' drifts and lots of snow and the blower was essential for my 300' driveway. You can use a blower on little snow falls but it just takes longer to move the snow. Blade will be significantly cheaper than a blower and have very little maintenance.
