Looking!
I am looking to buy a sc2400 with FEL and MMM. I will use it primarily to move snow around and condition a horse riding arena with a harrow. Any suggestions on what I should request from dealer? It's my first tractor...ballast? (tires) ...block heater? other issues???? Should I have the tires filled...?Thanks!

:welcome:!

If you will be moving snow, I would definitely add some ballast. Get a 3-pt weight box, they're fairly cheap. If you buy a new tractor, you might be able to wrangle a free one or possibly have the dealer fill your tires for free....

Block heater is a good option as well.....although unless you leave it outside, not necessarily required.

Good luck!

Thanks! Yes..the dealer offered a "free" 3 pt weight box...and $250. to fill the tires... :(

the weight box for free is a good fair deal and as for the $250. what was he filling them with? If I remember right it was about 11 gallons a tire and the rim guard (sugar-beet juice) cost me about $2.50 or $3. a gallon
you definetly want the tires filled because some day your going to need to lift something when the weight box is off and say "I will do it just this once and be careful"
another one of those little sayings that preceed major expense and repairs

Not sure where you stand with this but this is what I did.
Purchased SC2450 FEL & BH, loaded tire (Beet Juice), block heater & other stuff.
Took off the BH no Ballast Box & I spun the tires too much.
Even a Box Blade did not do as much as the BH.
So... a ballast box would be a must if working w/o the BH.
If a Snowblower is in my future and i hope so, then a ballast box is too.

As for the Block Heater, even in 17 degree temp my 2450 started without a problem.
Block Heater is nice if needed but when is it needed ?

Personally I don't see a block being required unless you live in a very, very cold area of the country. It's routinely 10-15 degrees as a high temp where I live. The only time my 2400 struggled a little was when the temp was around zero. I rarley need to start the tractor when it's this cold out.

Well I live in ND I do have a lower hose heater on mine
it will start well below zero (my teenage son left it sit outside when he took it out of the shop to work on his pickup one night) it was -17 it started but by all the rattling the engine did and the whinning from the hydro unit I dont think its something I will plan on repeating!

You defeinatley live in an extremely cold region.
And I agree. When I did start my tractor @ 0 the engine was rattling so much the water seperator bracket rattled loose.

If I remember correctly there may have been an updated bracket that was thicker.
