Has anyone had any experience with Rocky boots that the soles fell apart? I have a new pair of Bearclaws that have been in my closet for two years, I`ve never worn them and the soles just fall apart in your hand.I called their warranty and quality control people and they said "sorry about your luck" you need to pay to have them resoled locally.Don`t send them in we`ll just send them back! Any suggestions?

I gave up on Rocky many years ago, but I’ve read that same complaint numerous times. Not much you can do.

I had the cheaper pair of rockies about 10 years ago. They did the same thing your describing. Pieces of them just flaked off till it seemed to get to a harder base rubber, that seemed to be more stable. The sole was very soft and after wearing them about 4 years for hunting as well as from time to time just wore them almost smooth. I love the comfort of rockie boots as well as the steeltoe size in work boots but the older hunting boots had terrible problems with sole rubber. Come to think about it the last pair of work boots i had did not have a great sole, but not as bad as the other pair.

I had a pair of Cornstalkers several years ago that I loved. I replaced them with Bearclaws and got the crumbly soles along with a loud squeak. I called also and got unsatisfactory results. I have found better boots and just walked away from Rocky. It seems they don't listen and if they don't get money they hopefully will not stay in business.

My Rocky boots experienced the same deteriorating sole failure. They were only worn 1 week during hunting and then stored in the original box. Around the 3rd year the soles literally would fall apart as you walked. Never bought another pair of Rocky boots again.

Had the same exact results as everyone else. Hardly wore the boots- maybe a dozen times over 4 years. Had to trash them. Never bought another Rocky product.

After reading the responses since my last post i remembered in addition to the crumbling soles they cracked horizontally on the widest part of the ball area of your foot(the front half), all the way through, if they were not stiched to the boot it would have been 2 pieces.

Rocky quality has taken a severe nosedive since they went offshore. I don't even consider them any more

I've been buying rocky boots for years and I agree, since they went to china they have really tanked. That being said I used to have 2 pairs of mountain stalkers I bought 10-15 years ago in nelsonville. The first pair I wore the heck out of for about 10 years till they just finally fell apart. The second pair I got out and wore for 3 years or so primarily hunting. Last year I noticed the sole had all hut completely crumbled apart. Just bought 3 new pairs this season so I guess we will see how they last. If they fall apart too I suppose they will be the last rockys I ever buy.

Not Rocky but the same thing happened to a pair of Rockport boots I had. The soles kinda got soft and almost gooey after a few years. They too were asian made, some older US made ones are still going strong....

I had a pair of cornstalkers that the soles crumbled and came off the boot in the course of a day while I was hunting. I was packed way in, in Alaska and had to continue hunting with another pair that did the same thing. What a trip... I use to buy nothing but Rocky's before, but not anymore.

The first pair of Rocky`s I had lasted over ten years.Best wearing boots I`ve ever owned. That`s why I replaced them with the same boot,I thought.I know you can`t guarantee boots forever, but to have never have worn them you would think they would at least look at them. The boots have Made in USA on them,I don`t think the soles were!

I've been through the same thing. Any company that sells crap and refuses to stand behind it should be blacklisted - Hence this thread.
Put a couple of bricks in them and send them back to the company C.O.D.
Egypt is a perfect example. Let the people speak.

I too am tired of buying boots that don't last. Can anyone suggest a decent brand of boots?

I to quit buying Rocky boots to when the soles on the pair I had just fell apart after just a year. I bought a pair of red wing boots. They don't have the fancy camo pattern but other than that they perform the same. I will admit they were not as comfortable until broken in. Three years later the are still fine except for a little melting on one sole where got to close to a fire.

My first pair of Rocky Bear Claws survived 8 or 9 hard years before the soles crumbled. They were comfortable, warm, and made in the US. I was happy with the boots and bought a replacement pair (Bear Claw also) which I discovered were foreign made:( They aren't quite as comfortable and don't seem to be as warm (might be that I am older and the blood is thinner). I have gotten 5 or 6 seasons to date out of the replacements and the soles are still holding up. Before I replaced the original pair I checked and they can be resoled but for a little more I was able to get new boots.

White's boots in Spokane, WA. White's Boots, Hunting Boots, Pac Boots, Work Boots, Outdoor Clothing They are the standard for working in the woods and they have multiple styles for other activities.

One guy on my timber inventory crew bought Danners. They lasted one summer. I bought my first pair of Whites in 1976 and they were still good when I retired 18 years later. They had Vibram soles. No longer fit me because my foot has changed as I got older--it happens to all of us, feet get longer. I did buy a second pair, caulked (the logger boots with the nails sticking out the bottom) boots, in about 1979 and they are also still good.

Whites rebuilds their boots and they come back looking like new for about 1/2 price. You get them rebuilt when the soles wear out and they fix any problems with the uppers at the same time.

My only complaint about Whites is that they didn't keep my feet dry, but I see on their website they now have a waterproof model.

Spendy? Yes, but they are made to measure, so they'll fit right. And they will outlast your foot size.

Also popular in the woods, but a second choice after Whites were boots from West Coast Shoe Company (Wesco). They also custom build. Since my employer finally (after we worked 6,000 acres of blowdown timber where we were walking logs 15-20 feet above the ground) caved and bought us caulked boots & I also have a pair of those. Not as comfortable as the Whites. http://www.westcoastshoe.com/wesco/home.asp

I could understand if the boots were called Butterfly pads or Frog toes, but Bearclaws, you think at least the soles would be tough!
