How does a Puma compare to the Kubota rear mount?

The only available information I can obtain is the cutting width on the Kubota rear mount which is 51 inches.

The first Pronovost group 1 model for your tractor size wieghs 550 pounds, 54 inches wide and 575 pounds, the second is 62 inches wide, both of them have 22 inch diameter drums and the impeller drum depth is 9 inches deep.

I would talk to Ken Sweet about the Buhler/Allied rear mount if I were you,he is quite knowledgeable and the Buhler /Allied/Farm King equipment is well built and well designed.
According to my owners manual my BX 2200 is rated at 16.7 PTO hp. and I have run this winter with my 60" Allied and have had no problems.( 1 auger shear pin) I also built an electric chute turning system.

Swamp Yankee, Check out Erskine Rear PTO driven front mounted snowblowers. They have a 54" 60" 72' 80" But they are $$$$

Well, after reading TG's post I decided to look at my operator's manual and it confirmed the 16.7 HP (estimated). I got the 14.5 HP rating off of the Kubota website. Ken Sweet was kind enough to send me a private mesage about the Farm King. I found a Puma 54" in state. It seems the non-commercial snowblowers are all priced about the same within $300-$400 (Puma, Farm King, Kubota, Bervac, etc) and as Ductape said a few are made by the same company. Leonz said some of them have problems with flexing. Since the Puma 54 weighs about 200# less then the Pronovost P-540, I would say it isn't made with the plate steel in places to prevent flexing. For those of you that have been able to actually look at them for comparison, do you have a compelling reason why you chose one over the others? Another question I have is do any of them non-marring skid shoes available or do they all leave marks on an asphalt driveway?
TG- have you had problems due to moisture with your electric chute rotator and have you upgraded to an alternator? Thanks to all for your replies and sorry I have so many questions.

Hey guys...my first post, just joined today. Been learning much from those who have posted here. Need some help deciding on a rear mount snowblower for my Kubota L2250. Any and all insight is welcome. Currently looking at buying a new Farm King 60 inch for around 2k and would have to travel aways to pick it up. I also am looking at a used (3 year old) Pronovost Puma-64 for about 1k which is a little closer to go and check out. The PTO shaft was just replaced, and from the pics, it seems to be showing normal wear. How do these compare quality-wise? Any additional info/thoughts are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First question: I have had no problems with my chute control. The system that I used is very simple(read cheap) and is made with components that are built for a hostile environment.
2nd:The power draw is light enough that any alternator upgrades are not required.
If you would like a picture run down of the chute control I can post.

The RAD folks make many of the snow throwers for the majors JD, NH, Kubota, etc.


All of the Pumas and Pronovost models
have plate steel in the construction
of these snow throwers so flexing is
a zero issue with them.

Tudor and Jones and Pronovost will
have a few of them at the winter farm show
in syracuse at the state fair grounds shortly.


From what I remember of my conversation with the
the Pronovost sales representative 2 years ago they
wanted to offer a blower that was slightly less wieght
and money than the group 1 units for the consumer,
the quality is still top end though, so thats not an issue.



Their snow throwers are heavy for a reason;
the side walls for the Pronovost Lynx, Puma, group 1, snow throwers are heavy because of the snows in canada and thier snow conditions.

The heavier a blower is the stronger the frame build;

You have to keep in mind that the snow caster is reversing into a very heavy snow mass
and it does not care how strong the steel is and its mass is greater in weight than the snow blower and unless the auger and impeller are working to remove it the travel speed of the tractor will continue to place pressure on every square inch of steel that is being pressed against by the snow fall.
