Newbee here , Been looking at L35s and L48s Backhoe /Ftend loader . Or looking for a ft end loader 4x4 tractor . I do not need a L35 or L48 , I just thought it would be nice to have a backhoe . I have a old 3000 Ford diesel tractor ( 42 hp) now 2x4 NO loader . I work on 2 , different 3 acea lots . I have a 6 ft box blade , 6 ft bushog , and a 6 ft grooming mower . I blade around 5-7 driveways in rual area for friends . Box blade alot , doing dirt work . I only use tractor a few times a year . Would LOVE to buy new , but having a hard time paying so much for new tractor . I have $10,000 to spend plus what ever the 3000 sells for . SO I might have $11,000-$14,000 to spend . No More . On a budget , so looking for a clean used tractor 4x4 with loader , or do I buy new with 0 down and 0 % for 5 yrears ???? What size should I look for to do work above with 6 ft equipment ? Thanks .

Looking at a L4610 with loader this weekend
needs TLC ( seat, light , tailights, and paint is fair) $13,500 as is , or MORE is he cleans it up and fixes it .

Looked at 2 L35s both junk for $14,000

Missed a CLEAN L48 low hrs , sweet rig for $17,000 it sold , I offered $15,000 and it sold 2 hrs later for $17,000

I have a L4200, Love it and really would not want a smaller one.
You are on the right track looking at L4xxx size... and a good used tractor is got to be the best way to go..
I hate the thought of buying new, as soon as you use it it becomes 'good used equipment' ... so you just as well start out looking for 'good used equipment' and put the difference in new/used price into more attachments... KennyV

There are a couple of guys on here who have the 4610, I think Piston just got one and they really like them. I have bought used but you probably will have to go more than five years old to get a significant discount. I bought one seven years old and saved quite a bit. It was well taken care of with the maintenance record.

We own and old backhoe and no longer even use it. For us it is cheaper to rent one or an excavator instead of buying one and keeping up with it. We can do pretty much all e need to with a FEL.

I personally like a 40-50 HP for all around utility work unless size is a problem then there are a lot of smaller tractors from which to choose.

Good luck.

I went shopping for a 30-40 HP and wound up with a 50HP and I am sure glad I did.

1700 hours isn't much on a tractor, so it may very well be a good deal. We have a couple of tractors that look pretty rough due to their age and exposure to the elements before we bought them, but they are really dependable

Tilt wheel - stuck ( he said he has seen this before , needs taken apart )
Tie rod ends- some play

He said for $500-$1000.00 plus ALOT of cleaning I could have a nice tractor .

It sounds like a pretty good deal, but with only 1700+ hours, I am surprised the tie rod ends are loose. You might want to check to see if they are worn out or just not properly torqued. They are not hard to replace and all of the other stuff seems fairly simple to remedy.

May be some good info here: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/kubota-buying-pricing/192488-l4610-should-i-pull-trigger.html

This guy is trying to tell the truth about the tractor , anything he would fix before he sells it , but I am getting the as is price. He said for $600.00 he could fix everything , not counting man hrs to tighten stuff, clean and wax. He said it should be a $16,500- $17,500 tractor fixed up . As long as it runs good , everything works I do not mind to fix a few things to save some cash .

Not only will you save some money, you will get to know your tractor better.

I honestly don't know about the price though, maybe someone can give a better idea; seems good to me, but I may be way off.

This may give you a little insight into tractor prices:http://barlowequipment.com/used.htm

Reality moment here! You have a total of 6 acres you are caring for. You have said in every post you have started that you only use the tractor a 'few times a year'. Why would you buy that big of tractor for that much money given your use? Starting to sound fishy.:confused3:

I have 6 ft equipment , I am use to a 42 HP Ford 3000 , why buy a small hp tractor , then have to sell all my equipment . I like power , Diesel truck , dirtbike , tractor , I like power !!! The L35 I drove felt so WEAK compared to my 45 year old Ford 3000 . I also hope to pick up a few side jobs with a FEL , so I want the power to move some dirt/gravel . My daddy always said " Bigger is always better " :D

Nothing fishy , but most dealers tell me that a NEW L2800 will NOT pull 6 ft equipment . The L2800 is $16,450 with NO tax . So why buy a smaller hp tractor and HATE it ?

MarkV how often do you use your lawn mower ? How big is it , little or big ? I am sure it sits all winter ? Just like me and a tractor , I use it after a big rain to fix road, and do odd jobs for friends . I am always moving dirt , grading driveways . Plus with the FEL , I think it will open up all new doors of work I can do. I want to buy a tractor one more time in my life ( 40 yrs old ) and be DONE . No more buying tractors . My Ford 3000 is 45-48 years old ( I have owned it for 15 years !) , it just needs about $1500.00-$1700.00 spent on it to make it like new again . If it was 4x4 and had a loader I would be happy to fix it and KEEP it . I just want a newer tractor with a FEL .

1*-I Would LOVE to buy new , but having a hard time paying so much for new tractor .
1* Buying new can cost less than going used thanks to Zero Percent Financing.

2*I hate the thought of buying new, as soon as you use it it becomes 'good used equipment' ..
3*. so you just as well start out looking for 'good used equipment' and put the difference in new/used price into more attachments... KennyV
2*That deppends on what you pay for new.
3*Buy the time you pay the finance charges on used there may not be much if anything left for more attachments.

1 Good used equipment is always less than new...
2 I buy my new equipment at wholesale and it is still always more than used.
3 How much is financing a good piece of equipment going to cost? My self I have never financed any used equipment... You can buy a LOT more with cash... KennyV

I can get a NEW L2800 for $,16,500 CASH PRICE , Out the door with R4 tires and loader . But dealer tells me its to small , to pull 6 ft stuff :(. OR $17,500 at 0down and 0% for 5 years . So new or used WHAT SIZE TRACTOR to pull 6 foot stuff ?

You can get L3xxx size tractors and occasionally wish you had gotten a larger tractor, OR you can get L4xxx size and almost never need anything larger... You could also look at L5xxx and NEVER need anything bigger...

Like I said earlier, my L4200 has never left me wishing I had a smaller tractor...
IF you were NOT including any dirt work, you could include L2xxx size... but you are ... so now it is getting down to how much are you willing to spend for a GOOD used tractor..?
AND there is more good USED stuff available now... a lot of people bought new when the no/low interest deals were pushed... the economy is still very soft... there are those that can not afford to make payments because of it...
Plenty of GOOD used equipment available, you do have to look, and it may not be in your immediate neighborhood... BUT if you have CASH and are willing to put a bit of work and time into locating what you want/need... you are going to be able to buy MORE tractor for your money finding GOOD used vs new... AND you will NOT have any mthly PAYMENTS... KennyV

I am going to keep looking for a 37 -45 HP tractor . Hope to find a nice used one for $10,000 - $14,000 . I just think the 28-30 hp will be to small compared to the Ford 3000

Looked at the 4610 , it was what the owner said it was a TLC model . He said $13,000 FIRM , I said no thanks . It just needed to much work . But he did have a New Holland TC 40 ( NO loader :() it was like NEW it had 500 hrs , I thought it was a 2011 model . I drove it , it was sweet ride !! lotsa of power !! He wanted $13,000 , I offered $10,000 CASH , he came back at $11,900 .......... I went home to research it , and to see how much a loader would cost . It sold 2 hrs later for $11,900 :(.
